Jakeboyles
16th February 2011, 00:52
aswell as everyone else im getting pretty F'd off with petrol prices going up and up. THEREFORE (stupid idea but lets see)

i think there should be a sax-p protest on petrol prices!!

the plan;
we all meet up
have a cruise down to downing street.
we ask nicely for them to lower the prices.

if they refuse - we can all rev up and then let them moan about greenhouse gasses and emmisions and the rest of the bollocks untill they lower petrol prices

or best outcome - they lower them to about £1 per lite?

WHOS WITH ME!!!!! :y::y:

Best outcome, you wasted a full tank of petrol revving the shit outta ya car. Then have to pay the extorsionate price again

So what's that we all get our cars taken off us, after using a load of fuel to get to Downing Street.

Yer I am up for that. :D

16th February 2011, 00:54
Or, they'll sit there, listen to you rev the tits of your engine, and laugh smuggly knowing you are going to HAVE to fill up more petrol than before to get home?

I thought that, but this is different, it's ideas for protest.

America.

This is the problem with this Country and it's people.. Everyone complains but no one wants to do anything about it.. The lad put forward a suggestion to a problem which affects us all and you snub him, yeah great, regardless of whether you think it's a good idea or not (I don't personally) maybe you could be constructive and thing of other ways to protest, someone has to take the first step, all it takes is a bit of organisation.

It doesnt matter what we do we will not get a price reduction so stop moaning and get over it.

Brilliant, bet its 128.9 by the end of the week

Seriously do you think the government would give a fuck if saxp had a fuel protest???

Nope, but if loads of car clubs could get together........

Remember, the high cost of fuel affects everything, not just how much it takes to fill your car. If Tesco pays more for fuel to deliver to their stores, then your shopping costs more. Anyone else noticed how some items have gone up by not justt a few pence, but maybe 10 or 20 pence in the shops?

Jakeboyles
16th February 2011, 10:27
i know its a stupid idea but it got attention didnt it! it was intended as a joke!, but like people have said something needs doing about it! so why not all collate ideas and think of something. yeah nothing might not come of it

but whats the worst they are gonna say...no. not as if we all gna get our cars crushed just caused we asked a question and tried to get what we want insted of getting what we are given.

if nobody says anything and just "makes do" nothing will get done and they will continue to take the piss before we know it we will be paying £2 per litre. so lets at least try to stop it now

theres no harm in trying is there? ( obvs when we have thought of something)

what a great way to look at things.

Get over it? Get over that the tax is so expensive some people struggle to run cars (i'm not one of them)

Its not just fuel, the lorry that carries the goods to supermarkets for them to sell, if the fuel price is high, the goods are going to cost more, its common logic.

LIke bound said, your one of these that will moan about fuel prices, but you wont bother to do anything about it.

You are paying fuel duty, VAT and then VAT on fuel duty. This is the result of bailing out the banks while the fat cats are making bigger profits year after year. Inflation shot up again and the country is very near financial collapse. These extortionate fuel prices will push us into a second recession dip.

The more I pay, the more potholes I get. What you say sounds pretty much like spread your legs some more.

Tell me about it I paid just over £105 for a full tank this morning. I'm thinking of looking into running on Veg oil, although the bar stewards have put the price of that up aswell!!! I may look at getting WVO from a few local restaurants, I used to manage Frankie & Bennies restaurants so I've a few contacts just not keen on doing the cleaning process myself!!!!

According to the GIZ survey, a litre of petrol in Venezuela is just 2.3 cents, the cheapest fuel price at the pump in the world,

Read more at Suite101: Fuel Price Check: The Prices of Gas in North and Latin America http://www.suite101.com/content/fuel-price-check--the-prices-of-gas-in-north-and-latin-america-a346877#ixzz1E84WR7z7

Move to Venezuela??? What does 2.3 cent equate to? 2p a litre or something?

petrol 126.9 here in all honesty no amount of petitions / protests now will do anything to make the gov change things, unless you go to scale of things back when the first protests happened and stations go dry as result nothign will be done.

It's crap situation but seriously what can be done?

Welcome to the real world boys and girls..

Big fat wankers across the WORLD not just the UK put us in this position, and Petrol is becoming a scarce resource, its not only drivers that need the oil that is being drilled.

Only way out of it is to put up with it for the next 20 years, or get an electric car :)

the only reason why prices went down last time was because there was a drop in car use, resulting in less fuel bought.
Demand is currently high so prices will be high. Thats the nature of business. We are not lucky enough to live in a country subsidising fuel to stimulate growth.
Stop using your car all the time. I never use mine at weekends unless I have to, instead choosing to walk. As soon as I move the business I will be making sure its within cycling distance of my house. That will stop me travelling 50miles a day to work. A car is a tool rather than being a right. No-one has to use them generally. We all have choice.

As for the banks. We need them to make as much money in a short period of time as possible. Their profits are taxed and as they make more profit their share price will go up, meaning the government can sell off what they own at a profit.
We do not have anything to replace the behemoth industry that the banking sector is. At the same time you cannot expect to live as you did a few years ago so you have to make some cuts. Its not as hard as you think.

That's what I thought, I was having a rant the other week to my mate who works in the oil industry who told me completeley different. He is one engineers who predicts where the oil is and how much of it there is, then say's weather it's worth drilling for or not. He said that there wont be any kind of shortage in oil for years, it's just that if they slow down the process of tapping into the oil source the oil supply here will go down driving prices high, meaning they get more money for their oil. Also some oil fields are harder to tap into ie oil is further below the surface, rock is harder to drill, therfore if the company's wait till the oil goes up in price before attempting to drill into a new supply.
This is why we need the government to make the tax balance ie when the price of oil goes up the tax goes down when the price of oil goes down the tax goes back up, keeping the price stable.

This has been my philosophy aswell. I give myself the same budget for my 2.8td each month that I've been giving myself for the past two years in my 1.6 petrol saxo. I am lucky enough to live about 4 miles from work so when my budget nearly runs out it's time to pedal to work and save the last of the budget for taking the family out at weekends. I usaully find myself riding everywhere for the last couple days of each week, but shouldn't complain as I am feeling a lot better for it!!!

Point taken. Now if the price keeps on raising like it did recently, the country will grind to a halt. I can think of a few people who cannot afford petrol anymore.

Ok i apprciate that but if you also re-read you will see that it was a joke. Just basicly saying something needs to be done about and if anyone has ideas. Forums are to discuss things etc and so i started a thread to discuss petrol prices.

Fuel is also sold in US dollars as the pound is crap at the moment we cant buy in as much as we used to so the prices go up, also the fuel is sold to the highest bidder I was told by a friend who works as a renewable energy spokes person for the government that there was a tanker in the channel waiting to drop off at an oil depo in the uk when spain said they'd offer more they went to spain they will go to the highest bidder. Cars are not going to be a big dent in a protest against fuel you would need haulers to get involved and strike but even then that would mean most going bust as they wouldnt be able to pay running costs and goods prices would then rise as they got scarce so it would never work imo.

It would also be better if spread betting was banned on oil barrels too. Its cheap to do as investers do not have to buy the full value of a barrel to gamble on the market
