Cracking little car mate, do like Saxo's in Silver
Silver is quite a boring colour really, but it was the best saxo I could find in my price range, and I know the full history of the car as a family friend owned it from new who's also a mechanic. Bought the car April 2010 with 30,247 miles on the clock, full MOT, 6 months tax, new brake pads, discs, exhaust, cambelt change, FSH for a price I couldn't walk away from. Engine and drivetrain is so smooth and pulls so much better than my old one.
Looks smart that. Plans sound really good too! Why Rota Attack alloys?
Well the standard VTR alloys are going to be refurbed with Falkens. Rota attack wheels are going to be for the summer/track driving. I have thought about Team Dynamics pro race 1.2's, but they are too common, not just on Saxo's.

Just passed it's MOT today. All good apart from a few advisories:
1. Discolouration of N/S/F indicator bulb
2. L.E.D out on high level brake light
3. O/S/R wheel slightly bent (due to being cut off by Corsa driver at roundabout. Made me have to hit the curb on the inside)
The wheel problem gets sorted this evening with a delivery of some 15'' Rota Attacks.
They are grey at the moment, but could always be done a different colour. Any suggestions?

Hey Adam, cheers. Hopefully will look alright. Been looking for some wheels for the summer.
I'm in need of one vtr wheel so I have a set to refurb.

Just came today. Second hand off a local lad on here. Really happy. Need a small bit of tidying up, just laquer peel. No curbing at all and tyres have a lot of tread. All Yokohama's.

harry289
24th February 2011, 17:43
Direct fitment for a saxo.
Sexy_gt has a red set on the mk1 vtr iirc
Still not sure if I like the vtr wheels more or not. Rear needs to be lowered more. Time will tell. Im still in need of 1 vtr wheel so I can refurb a full set. O/S/R is damaged.

Fuck, that's one low mileage tidy Sax! I don't like the Rota's however. Looks out of place, plus the fact you can see the wheel weights on them too, the colour goes wheel against the silver though. Maybe look at getting some 'S Alloys and refurb them that colour?

Iv done a lot of miles since I bought her. Bought on 30247 last April. Done 14,000 miles in a year due to cruizing to Coventry and back (230 mile round trip) and to college and football. But, shes serviced well and never driven hard on the road. She runs smooth and pulls well. So much sharper than my old vtr.
As for 'S wheels I'm not too keen. Once the Rota's are fully refurbed with new Yokohama Parada spec 2's, rear lowered a bit more, then it could look alright. Also got the 'R wheels being refurbed.
As said it was just a quick fit and photo today only got them wednesday evening.

Rota's are for track/summer and I can't do the 12th I'm at work that evening and college in the day :(

harry289
24th February 2011, 22:48
I've been told (don't know how reliable the source is) that 266 brakes will fit under, just. All depends on what make of caliper I think. But yeah, your wheels are lovely :) I like a lot!!!
Use to have one of the photo's of you at cadwell as my background.
Hopefully this summer i get chance to do a 'proper' job on my car. Re-painting a few bits to make it look nice and clean. I just wish I had moneys :(
VTR_Craig
24th February 2011, 22:55
they should fit, but may have issues with wheel weights. I need to get through my current mintex 1144's before i put the 266's on.
Cant justify throwing away m1144's
Tried to add you on fb, theres a lot of you name, whats your profile pic like?

Just started to refurb my 'R wheels. Can tell it's going to take ages if i want it done properly. The insides were caked in brake dust. Mask on, wire brush + drill and away i went.
Not finished the first one yet as i need a small brush end to get in the nooks and crannies, then the fronts need doing. Then will be ready for sanding + paint.

harry wheels look nice if a little strange not seing them in red like mine.
if you think the wehhl weights are ugly then a little bit of black paint will hide them ;)
rear needs 15-20mm drop IMO since you have removed rear interior...
266mm lucas calipers do go under vtr rims.

Wheel weights don't bother me. Rota's are track wheels and are on my car whilst i refurb my vtr wheels.
I do aggree the rear needs to drop a little more. May have it done when i get new dampers fitted.
Plans:
In need of new dipstick. Going for a metal one this time.
Fresh plates
Saxo matts
Refurbed vtr wheels + falken's
Dampers (spax or blistein OE+)
Full detail (wash, degrease, clay, polish, wax)
Rocker cover same colour of wheels (dark grey)
OMP wheel + boss
Raceland manifold if i think it would be easy enough to relocate the oil filter. Any help?
I have 2 wheels ready for primer :)

Need to get my bum into gear and start preparing it for track.

Got some vtr alloys that are in need of refurb. Just deciding on what colour. The car is a fast road/track car so i was debating about the following colours.
Matt black - common on silver cars
Gloss white - i think it could work for a track car. I like white on silver
Smurf blue - maybe a bit ott
Dark grey - like BMW or Ford grey
Any suggestions?

I have a lower brace on my car mate. I found it makes the steering response feel a bit sharper. I think once all the poly bushes are fitted to my car, it will sereve it's purpose a little better. The same as you would expect to feel the full benefit of the suspension setup.
harry289
30th June 2011, 17:10
im lowered 50mm on 14's and scared it would catch on speed bumps ect on everyday driving.
Polybushes sound a good idea :)
jimjam
30th June 2011, 21:39
I'm lowered 50mm aswell mate. The only trouble you will get is uneven road surfaces.
14" wheels shouldn't make a difference as the tyre profile will be higher.
Speedbumps wont cause you a problem aslong as you aproach them straight and take it slow. The brace sits in between the wheels, so aslong as the suspension doesn't compress, the brace will follow the wheels moving up over the speedbump if you understand what i mean. Thats a difficult one to word haha!
The theory behind stiffer bushes sounds good, but im yet to experience it!

I'm lowered 50mm and have a lower brace, and its fine, you just have to take it very easy on bumps and uneven roads. from puting it on, i think ive caught it maybe 4-5 times? have a flick though my progress thread, and theres a few pics in there showing how low the bar sits.
Other than that though, i do think they make a differnce, as said turn in is much sharper!! i've the top one on aswell. for the money you carnt go wrong!!
Keep it up

Yeah it was an evening session so I pushed a bit harder this time and kept with the VTS' no problem at all and faster through the bends. Good exit speeds! Cadwell is the only track I have done so far. Next year I plan on Donington Park and the new Snetterton Track.
I don't want to spend too much on the car, but to just maintain it as best as I can :)

Cadwell is a great track. I mean I'v watched motorsport at just about every track in the country bar Anglesey and I feel Cadwell is massively underated. Such a good drivers track! I just wish BTCC could go there :n:

Your car is great!
Love the Steering wheel, Lovely sounding exhaust,
pro race 1.2's look great in most colours on silver cars,
Keep it going!:)

Thanks! Steering wheel was a good buy. Ideally I want silver pro race 1.2's but don't want to shed out £560 for a new set with tyres.
