what is the best switched live and illumination wire to use for an aftermarket rev counter, thanks saxo5

I'm no expert, but couldn't you take it off the 12v 'side light' side of the cigarette lighter? So when you turn your lights on, the rev counter will illuminate.

+1 that's what I've done in my mini for the Rev counter and three extra gauges

thanks fo the replys, i fitted the gauge today and i connected the illumination and the power to the head unit switched live, gauge works fine however will this starve the head unit of its power or burn the cable out ?
