i'd really like to tidy up the engine bay a bit and i was just wondering what would be the best way to clean the cam covers?

i know its a bit of a n00bie question but i didnt want balls it up :panic:

rub down the cover with wet and dry and onest u get a shine polish it with brasso or any metal polish thts what i done

can i do this with the cover still on? i'm assuming it'l be easier to take it off but i wouldn't want to :O

u can do it on is it a vts or a vtr u have

vts for me mate, so access to the top is easy, the black plastic bit in the middle? does this just bolt off without exposing anything important? :s

I would take it off tbh, wouldn't want any of the debris getting in to anything. I know it's not likely to happen and everything is sealed, but worth taking the time and doing it properly.

cheers for the replies! so i think i'm gonna remove the covers but wouldnt i need a new rocker cover gasket after taking them off?

If I remember correctly on a vts here isn`t a gasket as such you have to use a tube of seaant istant gasket springsto mind but i`m sure their are other things available.:y:Autosol works well on polishing things.

i polished some for l20vts on a proper machine took them off to do them

Dont bother.....ask anyone who has polished cam covers how much of a pain in the arse it is keeping them mint...........

Spray them or swap for JP4 covers (that dont leak)

Surly they're the same if not easier to maintain as polished rims?

well ive got rid of any oil sat on the covers and they do look a lot better, not polished but just look tidy!

im still in 2 minds about doing it haha, dont wanna do it then find out a week later they look like shite again!
