Hello. Ive read quite a few threads on temp issues and still having an issue Id like to resolve if possible. Car drives ok. At or around half temp on the guage the fan kicks in and the temp light comes on. after a few mins the temp goes down and light goes off. The fan seems to come on a lot more than before when the light wasnt coming on.. The system has been bled with no difference. Mechanic changed the blue sensor. No difference. Wanting to sell my car, 2003 VTR but would love to have this fixed. No white gunge, smoke or other gasket symptoms. Where to go next. Thank you for reading.

Not really sure whats wrong but the temp warning light isnt supposed to be on when the guage is showing halfway...

fan low speed kicks in at 96 degrees. high speed at 101 degrees. the temp. light comes on at 118 degrees. half way point is about 90 degrees mate. in reference to the temp. gauge, it should be about the width of the red box of the gauge above the half way before the fan should be kicking in,
are you driving when this is happening or sitn still... if you are siting still u shud expect the car to be over heating like crazy...
im thinking it could be a fault with the thermostat???
i have no thermostat so 60mph on the motorway reads almost zero on the temp gauge

I dont know about thermostat. Seems to work but will replace just to see. The light comes on at exactly half on the guage and the fan kicks in at same time. It happens at standstill. quite quickly. It also happens while driving. even on motorway. Not as quick to come on, and comes down quicker. If a really cold day it wont come on on the motorway. Im thinking of changing the green sensor and thermostat. I dont know what else to do. Seems odd. It only started about a month ago. Would be nice to really know the issue instead of spending money. Another symptom is that if the light and fan are on and I turn the car off, the fan stays on as normal for about 5-10 mins. I start the car, it idles badly, the temp light is on and the guage is at cold, fan is on. After a few mins the guage jumps to normal temp just below halfway, light goes out and engine idles normally.

I wonder ... what turns on the low fan speed? I didnt realise there were 2 speeds. Im thinking that it only appears to be turning on at high speed. That would account for the fan coming on when the guage gets slightly higher than it used to and its noisy!

u woudl notice the speed of the fan wen the car iss off and the fan continues it sounds like its about to die and when u turn the car on the fan picks up abit of life... my guess would be a sensor, check their condition and wiring before purchasing a replacement

Thank you for your replies. Will try a few things this weekend and let you know what I discover.
Had exactly same problem,
turned out the radiator wasnt holding any fluid. Exact same problems, temp light on at halfway and fan was on after about 10 minutes of driving anywhere.

What you mean the radiator wasnt holding fluid.? How did you fix that? No leaks on my car. Thermostat problem? Just getting round to changing that.
