basically i posted a few days ago about the car seeming stangled after 4k RPM

ive just been looking at the lets talk torque graph thats ALWAYS brought up whenever anyone mentions speeds and gears...

and it got me thinking, i can normally only get about 120 when im in 5th... the graph shows a VTR box should be able to hit 145?

Accelerating wise its a damn rocket, but top end is reeeally lacking

Finger pointing to a 1.1 box in its life?

if it had a 1.1 box on it mate you would hit the limiter in 5th.

Yes 145 it could reach but you need more power for it to get thier the vtr lump isnt enough to get it to that speed.. if it had a 1.1 box on you wouldnt see above 110 mate it hits the limiter quicker :y:

i have a 1.1 box on my 8v.. best mod i've done! better acceleration, change at 5500, drops to 4500..

Does 100mph in 4th @6500rpm

125mph in 5th @6300rpm.. not hit limiter as its hardcut limiter, so backed off before 6500!

one of the best mods i ever did on my 106, ratio's were much better for the backroads near me

nope, thats about right, the box is capable of 145 but the engine can't get over the resistance. a vts would push it closer, then upping the rev limit. for example, my 1.1 topped out at just over 100 (after 20 years) but the 1.1 box on my vtr will hit 116 before it starts bogging down

i have a 1.3 s2 box on mine with a vtr final drive and its amazing but i i wouldnt go for a smaller box than a 1.3 as mine is revvy.

You mean an S1 1.3 Rallye box? With a VTR final drive it would make it a VTR gearbox as the VTR uses the same gear cluster ratio's as the S1 Rallye 1.3 gear box.

i have something confused there then. as i got the rallye box and had it rebuilt with al new bearings but they changed a gear as one was shafted.

Some of the gears are not interchangable with other sports cluster gearboxes however they do have the same teeth. A wierd one. May remain a mystery!
