i took my car on the motorway for the first time yesterday, as soon as i got to about 70 the car was ridiculously shakey and the wheel was going nuts, just felt generally awful to drive and nowhere near what it should, then within a few minutes the engine management light came on? related or? any idea whats up?

check your wheel balancing and that your brake discs aren't warped (£10 to check at a local garage/tyre fitters). if that doesn't solve the problem then please describe:-
i) does the intensity of the shaking change with the accelerator pedal or is it related to speed?
ii) is there any noise?

ok thanks will try when i finish uni today, nah it starts at seemingly exactly 70mph and the shaking is pretty violent through the steering wheel and the car feels unstable, doesnt seem to get worse but i didnt go above sorta 80 to try it as i was abit concerned, there does seem to be a weird noise coming from the front wheels but thats rarely, kind of a dragging/groaning noise, also im 90% sure one of my ball joints was knackered before this, could that be anything to do with it?
thanks

defo sounds like wheel balancing mate, very easy to diagnose and cheap to fix. the symptom you describe of feeling it through the steering wheel is spot on.

as said, sounds like your wheels need balancing. mine did the same at 60mph.
