Okay call me stupid because i am haha, but i only just found out what Lent is! Now im not Christian or religious in any way so im not giving up anything. But loads of my friends which also arent religious are trying to decide "what to give up for lent" As if its just a bit of fun! If you are not Christian then why give up things for lent? Opinions please!

I don't see the point of taking part in lent if you're not religious. Waste of time. Why do people have to have a reason to 'give up chocolate' or whatever, why don't they sum up some will power and get on with it :P :P

Apparently nowadays people are being encouraged to do something more charitable, like helping old people etc as oppose to giving something up.

Hmm, only meant to give it up for 40 days or something, and I guess it symbolises sacrifice. It's not like making a new years resolution, I think the idea is that you give up something you like, or really like. Lots of people fast for it...

Thats why its pancake day! Because everyone used to stop eating during lent. So they used to fry up all their left over flour/eggs/milk in the olden days just before lent. Hence pancake day!
