It depends on for a start what type of tv it is so...
L.E.D, LCD Or Plasma
For example in a recent survery testings of all manner of brands came to this conclusion
LCD Average 36k Hours Of Life
LED Average 41K Hours Of Life
Plasma Average 66K Hours Of Life
Sadly Plasma's tv's have been given some utter BS about them doing this and that which is simply not true for example they need to be regassed??? etc...
But that said its all on the day ive known brand new L.E.D sets pack up within a year LCD Panels split in weeks and so on...
I must say the average life for ALL tvs does seem to be 5 years.
Used to work for a rather large eletronic store so got asked these questions all the time.
If its still under warranty mate get them to have a butchers.

My 32" is probably on for on average 10 hours a day and that's going strong - but I calibrated it monthly so I expect it keep going and going and going.
The 46" is 2.5 years old and has a curious feature where the right hand side of the panel goes black, flickers and then inverts the image. It does it for about an hour and then is fine for the remainder of the time the telly is on.

+1, With the LCD monitor for my PC, estimated it to be on for 12 hours a day for five years, still only 22,000 hours? Seems fine though.. Although I do think I hear a swift cracking sound emanating from the screen like somethings readjusting like half an hour after I turn it off.. Might be imagining it. Works fine & still going strong. If those typical lifespans listed above are accurate that's very generous imo.

That explains it then, both me and my parents bought Samsungs (some time apart) they must have had it for over 5 years now and its been sound, had mine nearly 4 and been spot on :y:. Only reason they got theres was their Toshiba tele of 25 years+ finally packed in.
