question for the vtec heads

a mate has got a del-sol (lord knows why?) 160bhp one but he says vtec isnt working just how much of a power loss are we talking if it isnt working...

my mate did some research a while back and apparently if the oil pressure isnt eite u wont feel the vtec kick in so maybe it is working u just dont know it

Yeah, as said, it'd still run, but VTEC wouldn't engage.

Easiest way to tell if it is, is just to listen to the exhaust note as he's driving, it's a noticeable difference.

it will run normal but after 5500rpm the vtec kicks in and thats when the power comes not hard to miss

Depends how heavy the 170bhp car was...

If you're on about the Leon, then no, despite being a fair bit heavier, the bags of torque will play to your advantage.

yer happened abit ago we were actualy side by side but he now says vtec wasnt working but never said anything back then..

they are quite nippy tbh alot better than i thought it would be keeps up with the vxrs so im happy with that just want it remap with stage1

But, my 106 was about level to ~80 with my dad's Leon (mapped Mk1 FR), then that started to pull away, and i'd think that was probably a little bit quicker than a Del Sol.

Stripped 16v, was quick, up to ~80 it was quicker than the Leon, but above that, the extra power & torque the Leon had meant it just carried on pulling, suspect the Del Slo will be much the same.
