yo guys, currently at school doing my AS levels(hate it so much) and im gonna come out this year with E's. whatever happens im dropping out and going to college in septemeber to do motor vehicle mechanics.
so do you guys reckon, stick out 2 months of school and come out with nothing but shit grades, or get a job for 5-6months and have money?
(i already have my gcse's to get into college, i only signed up to 6th form cause my parents pushed me into it )

Why are you gonna get E's? Revise hard and try and do well now you've been there for so long, stick it out, get decent results to add to your CV.

Stay at college, and enjoy having no responsibilities.
It'd take you a solid month or more to find a job in unskilled labour. Then you'd be hating life after a few weeks because you've had your soul sucked out by a shit job.

Mate its up to you I have no gcse or a levels . And own a tattoo business . I've been working on cars at age of 15 and teached my self . Left school sewing garments for marks and spencers lol but that got me the know how on how to sew so I do interior retrims . So I say what ever you have in mind go for it . I love my job . If I ever hated it I would find something new . Lifes to short to live on if buts and what's :)

As others said, push yourself to get better grades.
I finished school with grades A-C, and chose to go into Automotive Engineering, sometimes I regret doing it but I love it!
Should be starting Uni this september too, do a Degree in it.

tbh from the many jobs iv had, no one cares about school grades BUT if you try to get a job and there is another applicant and they're no more appealing than you but have better grades, more likely they will choose them

If you don't have better than c's in English and Maths I would study like f**ck and get better as if not you are forced to re-do them at college and for the sake of 2 months i would knuckle down and get the grades to the best standard as you can as it always looks better on your c.v. the only reason my boss employed me is that i had a good attendance at school and grades higher than c's
As he says "Any monkey can hold a spanner takes brains to be a mechanic and a mechanic with no brains is no better than a monkey."
If you want to be a proper mechanic and not just a fitter work your tits off at college and learn everything you can and not just the minimum work the college set ask questions about everything you do you don't learn if you don't ask.

Never burn opportunities. Failing grades on purpose seems bonkers when you have the time to swat up. You never know when they may come in useful.

My school life was crap my dad was in the army so moved all over the place . I must have been to 15 schools . So learning was hard . My mum and dad split up when I was 11 I think . . I was like my dad I would repair anything for money lol I started doing up push bikes lol but It took my mind off what was going off at home . So I did nearly everything on my own . Something I wish I did different . But who's perfect . Sorry didn't mean to blabble on

Time to change your attitude then mate, gotta tell yourself that you can do it, and put in as much effort as you possibly can. You aren't wank at it, you might just need more practise or more time. Ask for help etc, do what it takes to sort yourself out. I wish I had.

I wish I could go back years and restart my school and college life. Mainly the opportunities of college courses for free being under 18. I would make the most of doing as many as you can.

i was in a similair position to you... im guessing your 17 ish now?
i was 17 in my AS levels, was going to get crap grades and i jacked it in... :n: lived the high life for a new months because i landed on my feet as a manager however that was short lived as i got sacked from that job :n:
actually went back to college at 19... did an access course... now im at uni... :y:
its one of those things called (maturity) pardon the pun no offence intended
honestly looking back i can say... i could have saved my arse AS levels and gone onto to whip my A2 levels... but i didnt do that, i took the easy route out
im now 21 years old, at uni, holding down a part time job (carpet fitting at nights) and im a father aswell looking back if i hadnt done what i did at 17 years old (none of the crap that i went through would have happened so if i could turn back time i would not have left 6th form, so take my advice think about what will happen in the long run not the short run i.e the next 4years or so of your life... i know going from 17-21 doesnt sound alot but it is in terms of progress in life)
hope you make the right decision mate, i know i didnt and i hope you dont fall down the same path as me :y: p.s sorry for the essay

he's so right
my parents paid for 10 years or so of private education and then i went to state school and threw it all away. was a straight a/a* student then just couldnt be bothered and hated school, only stayed for one year of 6th form and didnt do any work for it. such a waste of all the time id spent at school and didnt get anywhere near the grades i should have :( and i really hated school too

I managed to get a B in a level art due to talent but the rest I flunked though disinterest and lack of effort. Made it a pain to get into university (though i didnt complete that either). For two months I see only one sensible option. Work your ass off. No employer likes a quitter. Took me a few years of employment before I have a CV strong enough to cover up for past mistakes.

We shall disagree there, as book's can only show you in theory, I have minimum grades but been repairing, rebuilding, over 15 years and can say that I dare throw my hands at anything that a so called mechanic could.
I chose not to work in mechanics as it would ruin something I enjoy doing in my own time, not because I don't have the grades.
I wouldn't tar everyone with the same brush!

Just finished 6th form, i wish i went to college instead, but i got a c grade in ict, and an e in dt. An ict job would be good for me and keeping on at 6th form has helped a bit more with it

I started my own business when I left school. Now 21, I make a more than comfortable living off of it.

33 so i started it ages 28. Seems a long time ago and its been bloody hard work with a lot of sacrifices. Things will be better once this recession ends.

ah fair enough, yeah it will hence im not doing anything for now and staying at university...
to the person who said start it now, tbh im halfway through a degree and i want a masters then a decent job then when i feel ready to do it i will go for it... im a betting man, always thinking of the odds nowadays and right now the odds do not appeal to me:oops: kudos to you for doing it though
edit (im 21 aswell)

the man speaks sense. i was expected straight A's in year 12. got into year 13 and didnt give a crap, pissed about loads and now go to a really average uni.
from experience, its a douche mistake to piss about in school

iv got 3 years to swat it up when i start college, despite what you've all said and i appreciate all the input but im goin to get a job. i may regret it in the future, but i cant stand staying in school

13th March 2011, 02:48
Tbh, for the sake of 2 months I would stick it out. You have already wasted a lot more of your time otherwise and sticking it out and getting an E's will look a lot better than dropping out to the college you are applying to and any future job applications.
Im sure if you really pushed yourself you could bump your grades up to C's which will look even better.

That was my attitude.
Hated it, so I didn't go.
Somehow scraped through to year 13, again, did nothing.
Now I'm in uni, purely from prior industry experience and somehow managing to teach myself enough of my a levels to pass.
If I could, knowing what I know now, I would go back to gcse's and work my bollocks off, so I could get onto a course that led to some I 100% wanted to do for most of my life.
I got lucky, landed on my feet as such and have learnt my lessons from it.
It's worth sticking out and working hard.
