Hello simo, mark and mods.
I understand the need to place a time limit on the editing of posts to a certaining degree however I think it may become awkward in certain cases. For example when arranging meets the threads can very quickly amass a huge number of pages and thus would make it very awkward to post updates to changes to meets and ensuring that all concerned know of the change in information.
It just occured to me on the west midlands meets (little advertisment there :P)
other than that im loving all the little features i keep finding!
Thanks guys

Hi Ad,
It's a good suggestion, and there are many good reasons to edit posts, but there are also many bad reasons. It's about finding the right balance.
I'll post an update here shortly.

Cool stuff man,
I just feel it could become quite a hinderance with regard to the 'meet' threads in particular. I wasnt aware of any abuse or problems with the editing of posts, shame if there is.
Thanks Mark :)
yeh but soon there will be regional co-ordinators...maybe just let them edit posts that they have posted in their regions forum...?

Thats a good point, but although i was giving the meets as an example i didnt mean it exclusively. i occassionally come back to posts/threads and sometimes add extra pictures (resized and optimised) or modify wording to make it easier to understand for people searching for advice etc.

what do you mean, can you not edit a post after a certain amount of time now?
why was this a problem? am curious.. not moanin or anything :P

yeh fair enough, i can say ive done the same, mainly to when trying to explain a problem a little better again.
also curious into why it was a problem :P

It doesn't happen very often, but there have been occasions. One example is when someone will post abusive content, upset many people, then go back later and remove it and plead innocence.

This was something I was thinking in this specific instance, but there are many situations where it will be useful to edit posts outside the standard edit time.
Hang in there...

that will make it hard for peeps (like myself) who have a thread dedicated to the progress of their car in photo section :(

and me too (which is another time i realised the need for the editing).
And the cheeky sods who edit a post like that.... I see why this is a difficult issue as to what to do.
again thanks for the update mark
will definatly proove difficult then. think after a few weeks or so sax-p will be spot on, or there abouts and run very nicely :D

The best thing I can suggest at the moment while everything is stull in flux is to put your suggestions in here (exactly as you are doing) and we will look at each in turn and work out a solution.
Please be patient with us, Saxperience has just undergone open heart surgery and it'll take a little time for all the new features/settings to settle back into place.
Hopefully you can appreciate that we are making changes for the benefit of everyone, in an effort to make Saxperience even better. We're not awkward on purpose, and will do our best to accommodate all needs.

of course Mark:oops: - I understand the massive amount of effort that the team have done to introduce V3.5:clapping: . So there is no pressure from me (i was merely suggesting ). As i said before I really enjoying the new features and layout.
All the best:afro:

i dont think anyone is debating this mate, the amount of effort you guys have put into this is massive, and well appreciated.
The posts here are just merely suggestions and reasons why the edit button would be missed :P

Oops, my post wasn't having a go at anyone. Just that there's still a lot to do, and it will take a little time to sort everything out.
Never be worried about making suggestions though - keep them coming!

We are listening and usually willing to change if its in the benefits of the majority.
Edit time was originally 5 minutes to allow for spelling mistakes, etc to be fixed. Its currently 90 minutes.
Longer term editability may return, but it did prove to be a problem previously.
One solution is that no time limit will be imposed BUT all edits weill be stamped with date/time the edit took place.. and by who.

that may be a better way to have things, as i can see the problem of people editing out abusive posts...shame a small majority of people ruin benefits for the rest of us

Edited settings, but if abuse occurs, changes will be made again.
Post titles can be edited for 5 minutes only... posts can always be edited (by sufficiently priveledged members) but edit notices will be set... after time period of 4 minutes.
Suitably confusing? :P

Thank you simo!

If I could add to this, Make a mod so if someone posts after you you cannot edit your post.
So if someone makes an abusive comment someone below just needs to reply and the knob-jockey cannot edit his comment.

We need reiganal orginisers for meets to help things on. Every time some one trys to sort some thing out, with meets every one argues and it only gets sorted out at the last minute.

This is well on the way to being finalised... it has been discussed at length within the premium member forum.
More news/action in the next few days. :A:

instead of starting a new thread thought id ask here,
When you edit a title say you want to add *pictures now on page 4* you go to advanced, and enter a new totle but why doesnt it display it on the forums it still has the old title?!!?!?!?

Title editing is disabled within a few minutes of creating the first post.

Not good, means you cant update a thread title if needed!. A few mods have told me 'Edit the title like a normal memeber instead of keep creating a new 1' i told them i couldnt but i thought i was going loopy!
cheers

I decided against using title edits...
If you add pics to a thread etc it will automatically be bumped... peole should red the post, hence find your pics, etc?
Not sure there is a need to edit titles...???
thoughts?

well i have been moaned at for starting a new topic or bumping an old 1 up instead of changing a title a few times. It comes in handy when arranging a LAM as you can add details / updates at a later stage.
Also if you make a typo you can correct it before people slate you for your language :p

You can edit your post contents always...
You can edit thread titles within 15 minutes of posting initially.
I still dont appreciate the need to edit thread titles...
Whether the title is called 'my car' or 'my car with new pics... again' I'd read it if I wanted to... not because of the title, but more because it had been bumped back to the top of the list by someone posting in the thread.
Still open to suggestion...

say a post is started with someone saying that they are going to do something then people reply with opinions then a few days later they do the mod and post pics but people wont know bout the pics but if you could edit the title it would help.
