whats peoples opinions of the new version against the previous?
i think you have more features to play with on v3.5 however i personally dislike the way the forum pages are, its not as clear who started the topic as in the previous.
also i think it displays too much information, i dont think its nessacery to display who is looking at each thread etc, clutters the screen and is not worth knowing imo...
however, well done to simo for keeping the site up to date and running smoothly
personally i like it and think it will improve when everything is in place and running smoothly, site moves along alot quicker which is very nice. :P

In terms of extras etc I think this one's alot better but the last version looked more user friendly and inviting but I only think that cause I'm not used to this one yet. And I'm sure they'll be more skins soon anyway...

Like with anything new, to learn it can be a little daunting and the old version can seem better, but I really like the extra features and bits and bobs

im not sure what the rep bar thing is either?! definatly less user friendly, wheres the smiles?! also i think with having changed most of the appearance of the site they also needed to change the top where the tabs are, it just looks out of place imo

If you click on "go advanced" when typing a response you will see all of the smilies.
Personally I think 3.5 is alot better, there's more features and means that the site runs alot smoother.

a quick read on the reputation thread will explain what it is but basically people can rate you if your are helpful or whatever and take it away from you if your being a pain.
Most of the site hasnt changed at all theres a lot more to saxperience than the forum.
Smileys are at the side of advanced reply or if you know the input in quick reply.

the only problem is that you cant see every one who is online but i likesimilar threads at the bottom :)
nice clean light look i like

12th June 2006, 12:45
Erhhh yes you can. At the top :P
I think the only thing members dislike about the new forum is (as Stevo said) the amount of text visable on the forum homepage. I'm afraid this is how vB works. Some of the text can be made invisible (members reading that particular section, etc...). The forum has the same number of sections as it did on the previous. This board looks more technical but it's not. Hehe!
Mattvtr
12th June 2006, 12:46
damo i cant either unless im on the forum main page
Graeme
12th June 2006, 12:51
well im asuming that when v4 comes out the top of the page and main page will be differnt dont forget ste that this is only v3.5 and not v4
stevossaxo
12th June 2006, 12:52
i think the "last post" bit on the forum homepage is both confusing and cluttering, just imo tho
DevilDamo
12th June 2006, 12:53
Well the homepage is the only page that displays all forum members. Are you both wanting it to appear on every forum page? Because I don't think you can on vB. I know you can't on IPB. Something that you can do is have all online users listed on the homepage (as it is now) and then whatever members are viewing a particular section or topic, their names will be displayed in that section/topic.
Put it in the Suggestions section.

12th June 2006, 13:01
Well as said before... in each section, at the bottom of the page there's a list of...
Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread
which I think is a lot better and more effective than having a complete online list at the top. But that's just my opinion.

Now now Stevo. Don't start all this again. I'm sure there are valid reasons. Have a look at your Control Panel.
stevossaxo

lol good bit of guess work then on my behalf
Scott
12th June 2006, 14:33
How? you havent guessed anything right that i can see
stevossaxo
12th June 2006, 14:37
i did it to whoever i thought put it unnessacerally (SP) on me, best of being 0 anyway, at least nobody can be gay and do it agian for no reason
Scott
12th June 2006, 14:38
So you guessed at who might have put it for you (wrongly may i add) and gave them negative?
You say that your worried about how the system maybe abused yet your abusing it?
stevossaxo
12th June 2006, 14:40
well so did the person that did it to me!!!!!!!1 i dont really care anyway tbh
Scott
12th June 2006, 14:41
and i agree that the person who did it to yoo was wrong, hence check your rep ;)
What im trying to prove here is that instead of doing what you did, let a mod know and we can look into it and rectify it necessary :)
stevossaxo
12th June 2006, 14:44
ok scott will do, i think your going to busy tho! lol, i have also rectified my mis judgement - use your powers to see lol
Mattvtr
12th June 2006, 14:47
how you do that?
Its much better than the previous version. Although we all were used to the layout of the previous one, we need to get used to v3.5 as its only been live for 2 days.

12th June 2006, 16:20
like it but prefer the old 1 as there wasent may other like it and it was better layed out this 1 feels more clutterd
leminho
12th June 2006, 16:27
i don't like the lay-out of the forums it's a bit messy i think
but i think it's because you're used to the old version and when you're used to the new version i think it will be much better than the old one
Simo
12th June 2006, 16:30
People keep saying its cluttered, but PLEASE can you tell me specifically which sections are worse/cluttered, etc.
Changes are possible, but only if you tell me what needs to change.

Each individual post can have a title and an icon too (rather than just the thread in the old forum). You dont need to use it though
