Sub sounds pretty crap?.. Why?

Hi all, recently got a new sub what is a vibe cbr I believe with the built in amp..

I stuck it in the car earlier and I'm getting some naughty noise coming from just turning the HU on it's kinda a rumble and it's spitting slight base without even playing music?

When I also play music the sub does not sound like it should and just booms around half arsed with little bass noise? Sounds so bad.. I did get slight distortion from my last set up with same rumble and the occasional big BOOM that made me shit my pants a few times. So I'm guessing it's wiring? Just what part?

Anyone know how I can overcome this?.. Bad earth point?.. Not enough power?

Any suggestions appreciated want this expensive bit of kit to be better than my last set up.

check your connections, check phono leads are ok, check earth and battery connections, and make sure your phono leads are seperate to the power lead (different side of car)

i have put the vibe stuff in various cars before and just run the wires down the same side and it hasnt had an effect though.

sounds like an earting issue, is the earth connected to bare metal?
