1 of my mates has got provisional insurance on he's car and can drive with L plates on the car as long as the person in the passenger seat is over 21.
Does the person in the passenger seat have to be insured on the car aswell as the driver who has he's provisional insurance on the car
cheers ian

No i dont think he does, however you're best off ringing local police station for a 100% correct answer.
Also worth noteing i believe the person over 21 has to have been driving for over 3 years.

Agree with this
I am 99% sure the person in the passenger seat does not have to be insured as they are not driving the car.
I think Paul is also right on the passenger having held thier licence for 3+ years as a requirement

What a silly thing to suggest. What the f**k would the police know about Law - and the opinion of one police person is certainly not a '100% correct' answer.
Read the Road Traffic Act, specifically Section 143..
Users of motor vehicles to be insured or secured against third-party risks.
(1)Subject to the provisions of this Part of this Act—
(a)a person must not use a motor vehicle on a road [or other public place] unless there is in force in relation to the use of the vehicle by that person such a policy of insurance or such a security in respect of third party risks as complies with the requirements of this Part of this Act, and
(b)a person must not cause or permit any other person to use a motor vehicle on a road [or other public place] unless there is in force in relation to the use of the vehicle by that other person such a policy of insurance or such a security in respect of third party risks as complies with the requirements of this Part of this Act.
(2)If a person acts in contravention of subsection (1) above he is guilty of an offence.
If the passenger is not using the car, he doesn't need insurance.

Yes you need some one to supervise you, rozovts your really lucky tbh. There's absolutely no way some one with a provisional can drive on their own.

passenger does not need to be insured as they are not driving the car, all you need is l plates and provisional insurance for the driver

So you are a learner, driving around on your own without L-plates? If so then you effectivly have no insurance & driving without a licence (provisional only applies whilst supervised by someone over 21 & 3 years experience). And..... you admitted it on a public forum where some members work for insurance companies and some members are police officers :clapping:

This is genuis
You have your full name on this forum and are openly admitting you drive without insurance or a valid licence
You don't have insurance without a valid licence
Without factoring in the members on here who are police officers, if anybody reported you, the police would simply ask the forum admins for your name and address and they would be legally obliged to provide it.
Even if you registered with a fake name and address, you are easily found by your IP address
