it has only happened twice but im worried about it. I was sitting at the lights the other day with it in netrual and the handbrake on. I was looking at the rev counter and the revs went up without me pressing anything.

I looked at my foot and it wasnt on the accelerater. Any way it could be quite dangerous if it happens while im driving. Does anyone know of the problem

i had same prob on my old 1.1 saxo. its the temperature or idle sensor mate. mine was the temp sensor and when engine was hot it kept thinking it was cold. cost me only £185 to fix!

Could it also be power related??? on my old saxo when i pressed on like fogs for example or put windows up or down the revs would dip...and then increase???

It happened to me a few months ago... my car was reving on its own.. was like having cruise control... if i sat at lights or a junction with my clutch dipped it reved up as high as 5000rpm on it's own!

It was the engine coolant temperature sensor... the green one on the front right side of the engine... costs around £10 for the sensor and free to fit - it is really easy... just make sure when you have undone the sensor and remove it you plug the hole with the new sensor quickly, as engine coolant comes out! changing the sensor wont cause any harm... mine was simply corroded.. and if it solves your problem like it has mine it is well worth the money...

It tends to happen a small amount to most cars... especially in extremes of temperatures...

Hope that helps

my plug had all corroded too

If it revs too high though then it can be major, as every time you pull the clutch out you will almost wheelspin, and you will wear your clutch out a lot quicker...

Can also be dangerous if your sitting in stop start traffic, if you try and creep forwards and it over revs you run the risk of driving in the back of the car infront...

Would recommend changing that sensor, its only around £10 and it should sort your problems :Y:
