ive just done the same a couple of weeks ago

you need to fill in form V317

and take it or post it to your local dvla office with a cheque for £80 and both registration documents, and both mot certificates

and thats it, they send your new paperwork back within 7 days (usually)

no need to sign v5 or anything

If you can just go into the DVLA office with both cars and youll get them both changed over within a few hours

if not go onto dvla site or post office and request a V317 form

also thats assuming both vehicles are taxed

if not then you need the insurance certificate etc to apply for tax at the same time

Thanks for the replies but probably shouldve mentioned the car is now in my friends name (who i sold the car to) with the intentions of getting the reg transfered once the V5's came through - which they now have :) i know i need both v5's, the transfer fee and tax disc info but does my friend need to sign anywhere on his V5?
So confused!

best bet would be to go to dvla office with all paperwork and take your mate with you, or just ring dvla first

but i think your mate will have to apply to put the plate on retention which costs an extra £25 i think (£105 total) and put your name as the nominee

then once thats done you can then put it on your car
