In with the electric..?? :S

According to this article on the pistonheads website, the EU plan to phase out petrol and diesel cars by 2050 to cut CO2 emissions

The European Commission has made the radical recommendation that conventional petrol- and diesel-engined cars should be banned from European urban centres by 2050.

Myself I hate the idea of this! I love the sound of the engine all tuned up with a nice roar! Electric cars just wont have the same feel/sound to them.

Also I recon this will put alot of car aftermarket suppliers out of business as engine tuning will soon become a thing of the past. No turbo's, beautiful sounding exhausts systems any many other things to add to the list. This makes me :(

What will happen to the world of Motorsport?

I agree something needs to be done but this I think is a step to far.

What is your vue on this?

In 2050, I wouldnt give a f*ck what happens cos tbh, my bwarp bwarp saxo wont me my pride & joy lol.
Still though, I hate the idea.

It wont happen and cant They gunna have elcectric powered lorrys? They will have to make fuel for the petrol engines in classics, just make sure you own a classic car.

100% sure that the Euro and the Euro's currency will be gone by the end of 2012 as its already struggling to keep the country's afloat you just got to look at Portugul that's in 52 billion in debt and needs a bail out. country's signed up to the Euro scheme will soon back out when forced to fork out billions for other country's. so this will never happen as electronic powered cars are still unproven and the battery's throw out more co2 emissions when being made than a car makes in a year.

in 2050 your saxo will be a 'classic' and purely a weekend track day toy. there is no way petrol and diesel cars will continue in every day use

Try reading the sentence properly...

It says 'banned from urban centres'. Sorry but when I'm walking/driving through central london the last I want to hear is some twat in a stationary saxo revving the car to 7000 rpm. Wish they'd put this legislation in sooner tbh.

Electric cars aren't/wont be the way forward..

Imo its gonna be Hydrogen. They just need to get there arses into gear to mass produce it easily and safely.
It's been done, and worked..

Electric blows. :D
