Hi all, will be lookind to get a vtr or vts in the next few months, and have much enjoyed reading the threads as to which is better. My question though, is which is better the phase 1, or phase 2? I have read some reviews that say the phase 1 was built better, but I can't find anything on this site about it. What are your thoughts?

2 is newer, post 01 ( Y ) R pays less tax and has more power than earlier ones.
1 has the same car tax as it goes on cc
Its a matter of personal opinion & the condition of the car.

based on looks, mk2 ftw :y: you can pick a mk2 vtr/vts up pretty cheap these days aswell, just have a look around and wait for the right one - don't rush into it! :)

i've got mk1 but would like to upgrade to mk2 oneday as I prefer the front on them and they're younger, but depends on condition of said car..

i prefer the mk2 but im biased because ive got one, both can look equally good depends on what your after. be your car at the end of the day but why not have a scan at both and then decided other than go off reviews and stuff?!

Im facing this aswell with the vts, i can handle the old headlights think there pritty naughty but i dont like the dials (blue and old). But the new ones more power???? thought it was the other way round can anyone clear this up cause i was about to hit the buy button on a mk1 and less power does not sound good lol(i know it wont be much but every little rampant french pony counts)

no difference between the mk1 and mk2 vts, its only the vtr that had a engine change. and you can change the ugly blue dials quite easily :y:

the 2nd car i bought was owned by a mechanic, but because he knew how to cut all the corners when i took it for the mot, 2 sheets of failures, paid to get it all sorted because i didnt know anything about cars then and it ended up being a peach.

Mk1 looks dated these days with the 2 piece headlight/indicator unit.
Mk2 looks alot better.

i dunno why people would cut corners with cars, if you dont fix it right the 1st time it will break again soon,
but at least you got it fixed :)

lol :) im stuck between the two of them, My mk 2 vts has put me of a little, was pulling my hair out with it but when it worked it was a dream. And now i like the look of the mk1 apart from dials and there a perfect one near me but i dont know if i should take the plunge again or not.

ive had both mk2 vts first as i did like the looks and curviness of it but had a massive headache of problems with it and a really bad case of rust, mk1's i find look alot more agressive and the sytle has grown on me alot since being a member on here and getting into my saxos,
the dails are a 20minute job to upgrade to some plasma jobbies that look 10 times better imo

If it'a a prefix plate (old style) then it'll be £205. Most mk2's are new style plates which is soon to be £260 a year road tax.

mk1 is for manly track slags and is dead aggressive. mk2s are curvey and girly and euro-y style... depends what you want. I love mk1s

MK2 VTR has close to 100 bhp, MK1 has just over 90 iirc.
not noticable in normal conditions.
plus i got white dials that light up orange
WINNING
also, the MK1 looks more of lads car, where as the MK2 looks a little girly at the front unless it has a dimma grill and blacked out lights. imo.
but either are good cars, and you will have oodles of fun in either mate. so which ever you find that seems the better deal.
if you find a nice low mileage mk1, dont veto it for a MK2 thats not in as good condition.
after all, there the same car.

Quite like the mark two myself.

Its dated and looks like a nova. Some cars date well the saxo isnt one of them. Hardly surprising really when it was a quick hash together of the ax.

Mk1 i think.
A black OR white Mk1, slammed on grey wheels, looks a BEAST!
As mentioned, the 2 part headlight and indicator set up on the Mk1 lets it down.

Wow, I never thought I would get such a response. It seems to me from what everyone is saying that it really comes down to personal opinion, and that you get good and bad mk1 and mk2's. I think I will keep my eyes open for the best can find whether mk1 or mk2.
