Over easter I am going to refurb my wheels. I can't be arsed with the ball ache of sanding and I know someone who owns a sand blasting business. Is sandblasting appropriate for alloy re furb in terms of prep before primer?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

I believe so, depends what sort of sand blaster you are going to use though..

yes should be ok as long as the stuff he blasts them with is not to sharp/course, as that will kill the surface that you need to paint

I started sanding mine down no I've realized how much involved an have not got the time especially since the cock who had em before me clearly never prepared the wheels before painting :( I'm looking into getting them blasted now lol

Depends what sort of blaster you are going to use, i.e if your going to use something for doing metal railings / statue refurbish and so on to removal the shit and dirt, chances are you wont have much of your alloy left after.

Sandblasting wheels will cause you more work than just sanding them down. Once there sand blasted you will need to seal the aluminium and rub them down to make them smooth before priming.

Best bet is to have them vapour blasted then you just need to seal them and prime.

If he is a good sand blaster he will have the equipment to do both.

If your going to hassle of having tyres removed for blasting jut get them powder coated, they will blast them and do it all for you

Powder coating in Birmingham is £80 all 4 wheels ;) you give them the wheels in what ever state, kurbed, slightly chiped, half painted and they'l sort it out for you. Fast aswell, takes normally 4-5 days depending if they are busy. City Powder Coaters, Birmingham.

Sand blasting is the profesional way of doing it but its expensive probably be like £150 for 4 alloys to be refurbished. I would tend to either buy new ones or do them yourself but I dont know what alloys you have and how much they are worth in good coniditon.
