Evening everyone

Recently I was caught up in a 3 car crash were matey at the back hit the car in the middle into me so at the time I thought I had no damage but after checking behind bumper and in the boot noticed the boot floor ha crumpled and rear slam panel thing has bent
My friend straightened It out for me

I have had to report it to my insurance and they have sent me out a courtesy car but the main problem is that they have written off my car without even looking over it at all

I was wandering why this has happened is it down to the value of the car/Is it not worth repairing or ????

I'm clueless on this
It's a 00 plate zs in mint condition apart from this damage

Any help appreciated

cost of the repair exceeds market value of the car, quite easy for a 00 ZS as an insurance approved bodyshop would be budgeting for replacement of bumper, rear panel, bumper reinforcement and boot floor plus paintwork

See that makes a bit more sense to me all the insurance guys told me was it will be a write off they just need to call you and discuss how much I get back

going to have to be new panels as well if its an insurance approved repair, they aren't going to waste their time cutting boot floors etc out in salvage yards

That's alright
Will remove the rust problems

but if they write it off they wont do that.

you will probably get a cheque for the value of the car minus the value of it if you weighed it in? both times the insurance took value of my car - £200

it was a cat D write off. So i just repaired it myself and made some money.

I didn't think they gave you a courtesy car if they write it off, only if they have it in for repairs? Or am I wrong?

They sai I can have a courtesy car until the money is sorted out for the car

The rust thing was a joke I will repair it when they have written it off completely and this all dealt with

To my understanding your car is an "Economical Write-off" Basically means as a few people before have mentioned, Repairs cost more than the car, a "Full Write-off" is when the car cannot be driven due to the car being in an Illegal condition or if it doesn't work lol xD

Say for instance your rear lights dont work because they were smashed in, you cant go drive it on the road.. its Illegal.. It would be best to ask your insurance what they are classing your car as, a full or eco write off so you can claim the car back if it is Eco writeoff but you wont be able to drive it... But you can try break whats left of it and sell it, some person bought my brother eco writeoff for about 800 pound.. the insurance company was only going to give him 550.. if its a full write off.. then you will never see the car again im afraid :(

Hope this helps.. I might be slightly incorrect with some of the details.. but mostly right i think :D

most of thats bollocks. you can keep anything but a cat A write off, and theres no such thing as "economical" and "full" write offs.
a car is written off when its going to cost more than 60% of its market value in repairs. however they should have discussed this with you before they did it because you can request a cash in lieu payment
they'll offer you a valuation of it, then take its scrap value off (usually insurers get preferred rates from salvage companies so try and knock the scrap value down as much as you can so you get a bigger cheque) they will leave the car up to you to arrange salvage or instruct the garage to scrap it so if you want to keep it you need to make sure the garage are fully aware of this before they send it to the yard.

ahh right sorry, i thought someone hit him from behind and he want into the person in front (i think because i read slam pannel) - so i was wondering if the write off came from the back or the front? then it'd depend on who's writing it off...

nice DP btw, your girlfriends fit
i know thats not really your girlfriend - you sad cunt

Cat A get crushed, Cat B can only be broken for spares(and can only be sold to registered salvage yards), Cat C & D anyone can put them back on the road after vic check

cant see why theyre writing it off to be honest, ive got a VR6 golf on a 95 M plate and that got hit by an arctic last october. it stoved the pasenger side rear quarter in and obliterated the back light!

after getting it authorised to be repaired less than a week after the accident it took them over 4 months to take it away and repair it! and then they only took it because i got the FSA and Ombudsman involved!

if your wanting to keep it on the road, fight it out with them and get the ombudsman involved if needs be, if your after a new car anyway, let them write it off and have the joys of fighting out a payment with them!:wall:

Cool well a chap cane today and looked over my car and used the phrase
"it's immaculate for it's age and a nice car"

Followed by "shame"
So I have a idea that they will probably cat d it and let me keep the car a that's what I want to do ideally
Thanks for the help everyone

Just to point something out that most people don't know. Any car over 10 years old that is subjected to an Insurance repair doesn't have to be repaired with genuine parts.

Cat B write offs can only be dismantled by a registered dismantler too
