Does anyone know how to connect two Win XP's together using an RJ45 cable. I plugged them into the right places on each PC but the icon in the tray says that there is limited or no connectivity. Any Ideas? cheers

Have you ran the xp network wizard to estabilsh a name for each pc and connect them together?
Also are you using a hub / switch / router?

CROSS OVER CABLE so that each station can send / recieve data to each other. If you have used a normal rj45 cable to both pcs without a hub or router or switch then they cannot send / recieve data.
The reason for this is the sending wire on one end of the cable matches upto the recieiving end of the other side of the cable so all wires are flipped over if you like. On standard cable send is to send and visa versa with recieivng therfore you get no communication

I've had one working before with this cable, but I can't remember how I did it. I didn't have that message before. The only option i get to repair it on both PC's is renewing the IP address but it fails that after a while.

hmmmm thats strange, normally people use a networking device such as a switch when connecting pcs together as a BUS setup is abit temprimental

You have to use a cross over cable, it looks like a rj45 cable but does a different job, what else you can do is buy a USB to USB network cable, they are getting much more popular and are easy to use, the USB network cable does basically the same job. Around £15 from PC WORLD.
