Give me a clue please because I am absolutely stymied with this damn query that no one is giving me help with, even Citroen do not seem to know what is fitted to their own cars..My daughter has had loads of problems with this Saxo leaking coolant culminating in a garage fitting a brand new rad, problem is the leak is still there and this time its coming from a 5mm hole high up in the filler neck on left hand side when viewing car from the front..

Can anyone tell me please if this very small hole is purposely designed and has a use, such as relieving pressure or has someone been naughty prior to fitting [maybe in the manufacture of this rad] or indeed afterward at this garage and drilled it through, that is for some reason that I do not know of, but it all seems odd to me, very odd indeed..

Hole is for releasing pressure yes. The radiator cap is weak/passing coolant once the system is pressurised. Buy a new cap to fix the problem.

Thanks for the information mate, very much appreciated, got to say this problem with water leakage etc. looks very much like head gasket failure, going through the good old Haynes seems to suggest head gasket problems although nothing is really conclusive. I mean my daughter has just drove this Saxo the 115 miles to see me, and I have looked at it, and done all the tests on it to try and diagnose head gasket failure apart from compression testing, compression does not seem to be an issue neither does water jacket failure as in observing the rad coolant when filled to the top of the rad for overflow or air bubbles what does point to head gasket failure is the using of water, and some of it seems to be sent through the exhaust.Could be a tricky one this but as you say we start with a new rad pressure cap see where we go from there, but definitely there is no water in the oil or oil in the water so if this is head gasket failure this gasket must have gone between the water jacket holes and not across the pots as there seems to be no loss of compression.. As my daughter needs this car I have told her to just drive it see how it goes .. .. thanks again
