Basically I am currently with 02 and had a £40 a month contract with an Iphone 4 handset...
This got stolen recently and I have a Blackberry coming tommorow, I want to use BBM as all my mates have it but apparently need to add this on my contract for a £5er a month??
Browsing the internet I can't see a straight answer and I can't get in an 02 shop to ask until the weekend...
So will 02 add this to my contract? As £45 a month starts to get excessive :/ anyway around the add on and just use normal data?

Im on Orange and got 900 Mins, Unlimited Texts and Unlimited Internet inc BBM for £25 a month :y:
& that extra £5 a month thing i was told is for people on Pay as you go so the bbm doesn't cost them a bomb cos it runs through your internet, as long as you have unlimited internet or over 400MB of internet time you will be fine :y:
It uses like 2/3MB a day, and if you have WI-FI it runs free off your home internet connection like your Ipod would :)

I genuienly don't understand the attraction of BBM...
You already pay for a contract to send texts, yet you want to pay more to only be able to send texts to other people with BBM :D.

I dont get that, but its more of an instant messenger, like what whatsapp is to the iphone, uses internet rather than texts, most contracts give unlimited texts nowadays anyway.

BBM is free Bound if you have good internet MB on your contract, £5 is for people on Pay as you Go so it doesnt use there internet Mb and cost them alot at the end of the month :y:

Yeah.. but you've got to use your data allowance to use it? Or pay for data allowance if you don't.. or don't pay for data allowance, use it anyway and pay even more?
Or you could just send an unlimited text to anyone rather than be locked to interacting only with other blackberrys.
Seems like madness.
Anyway, sorry for the thread hijack.

I dunno really the attraction but as everyone is using it I will have a gander...
So as I have unlimited internet on my contract I won't need the BB Add on? I can just use my contract data allowance?

Correct.
if all your mates use it why not ask one of them?

o2 will put a blackberry charge ontop of the tarif, until you do you cannot access web, emails or bbm until it is activated,
i had an iphone, got given a bb then had to 'upgrade the tarif'
went back to an iphone quickly lol

well whats the pont in having any good new phone with no internet :S seems pointless, but most contracts at £40 a month have unlimited internet anyways, bbm is signed in constant but it uses 2/3mb a day whats nothing, if you have NO internet a month cos your a cheapo and wanted a contract for like £5/£10 then yeah you would have to pay £5 to have BBM MB thingy a month so your bill at the end of the month wasn't madness
i think BBM is alright coupe of people of here have it and its instant aha, send pics, vids, songs over it in seconds :y:

thats not bad, i think it is basically because the contract is a iphone designed contract and is to discourage people selling the phone as you are gonna be paying for net twice
edit you price is good though on bb

I used to have a blackberry, I hated it got £80 for it...
Paid £330 for an iPhone 3GS, you're soooo much better off getting another iPhone...
I'm a text addict and I never used BBM as most people have got unlimited texts these days
I'm on orange and I paid £5 a month for blackberry services which was so I could use the internet (which was a certain amount of internet allowance a month) and bbm and blackberry app world:)

+1, but be aware you can get a fair few problems with Blackberrys as ive only just got a brand new one as my old one decided to delete all its software and wouldnt work,
but i think mines cracking and internet runs rather quick

So I do have to put it on??, most of my mates are on PAYG so just pay the £5 but didn't think I would have to cause of my data allowance in my old contract...
I will have to get 02 to slap on the BB data then if I can't use appstore, emails, internet etc as it would be pointless without...

I would have a good old moan to them saying i pay 340 odd quid a month you you want me to pay for BBM allowance, if you have over 500MB internet time should come free with it :S

The 5 quid a month isn't just for bbm its for the full bb package including app world bbm and email notification without the bb package your phone is no better than any other mobile phone.
also you should take the battery out of the phone every 72 hours to re set it and keep it running fast as there is no way to turn blackberry's off. If you never unplug the battery they you will end up with a really slow phone and could even end up with a constant white screen.

I had to pay an extra £5 a month when I broke my old phone and bought a blackberry to use all the blackberry features.
Contract with T-mobile that is.

If anyones ever in the same boat I basically had to phone up 02 and they switched my Iphone data bolt on with a blackberry bolt on so it cost me about 50p extra for the blackberry data plan compared to iphones!!
Worked out alright in the end, I could do with getting my phone robbed more often, I am about £150 up after paying excess etc :y:

My missus uses 02 (account is in my name), I rang them up to swap from Iphone contract to Blackberry contract with no charge :)
