Bit of a n00bish Q but this is the first contract phone I've had & I know sweet FA about contracts & upgrades...soooooo if I'm due an upgrade in nov later this year, could I upgrade to iPhone 5, providing it's released then, and If so, will I have to pay out the arse for it like alot more a month?

mlawlan69

the answer will more than likely be yes, you could be paying £20 a month for all we know, and they wont be giving you a new phone on that kind of price.

I pay £35 p/month atm;

300 mins
500 txts
1Gb data.

christ

i pay £20 and get

unlimited text/internet and 600 minutes

granted i did lose the free phone but still cheap non the less.

i recon when the iphone 5 comes out it will be about £50 a month'ish

best thing to do is wait, phones/technology move really fast and by november the phone market will have changed 147 times lol.

ALSO remember that they dont want you going to their rival companies, so try to bargain with them as much as possible, it's amazing what they are willing to throw in when you threaten to leave them.
best thing to do is about 2 weeks before your out of contract is call the disconnection team with a deal you have seen, asking if they can better it for you, i did this with o2 and they offered me a 3GS with same tariff as above for £25 a month, but didnt wanna be part of the iphone crowd so declined it :S

Yeah for 35 squid a month I get fuck all.

I just dived straight in to that deal and didn't know if I could've got better..

Best way to look at it is to look at the current pricing for the iPhone 4. Unlike most manufacturers, Apple are very strict in what their devices are sold for and prices do not usually drop until the next model is released.

Three currently do a package with 500 mins, 5000 texts, 1GB data for £35 per month and you only have to pay £30 for the phone.

It will be the best phone on the market, so you have to expect to pay abit more for it... Its like expecting to buy an audi s3 for the same price as a vts.. Ones way better than the other..

smiith
25th May 2011, 00:53
I doubt september.. Watched a programme about apple the other day, they are way too secretive, anything that is said, about release dates, specs, anything, is kept under lock and key, untill it is actually advertised by them..

I cant see it coming out untill mid 2012, for the fact the white 4 has just come out, and they will want to shift a good load of them before bringing out something else... They usually make it so its a good time for people who 1st got the last iphone, to upgrade to the next.. giving them the perfect chance to shift millions on launch..

I was on that tarriff mate but don't think they do it now, when you upgrade your tarrif should change to unlimited texts and I think it is around the same price...

When I upgraded from 3GS to iphone 4 I had to pay a hefty handset charge probablly the case for you to!!

I foiund that sending my phone off to envirofone pretty much covered it though :y:

its out in July lads lolololol

I get it as soon as it comes out- for free- cause vodafone have spent the last 3 years fucking me about.

Delboy
25th May 2011, 12:21
it shall be released around July, as per, all the iPhones come out each year around this time. it wont be the best phone out, but it sure will be good. you will be looking at paying £50 a month if you get the phone for free, £40 a month with a good tariff and paying for the phone.

Or if you're on Tesco, £35 a month on a 12 month contract. Handset about £250 I reckon ;)

Besides it will be the best phone on the Market. I've known people that have gone from iPhones to samsung, HTC, blackberry etc that will be going back to an iPhone

I paid £169 for the 4 just as it came out and I get a shit-deal for £35.

So I reckon the 5 will be around £40 + £200 outright for the phone.

And it WILL be the best phone out, doubt there will be any HTC, Android that could compete.

believe me, stats wise, it isnt the best. theres a new Samsung and HTC which has specs that are unreal. i wouldnt buy them for shit, id get the iphone for its design and simplicity, but still, the other phones are faster/quicker and more accessibility ect.

Tesco is usually cheapest, how ever carphone warehouse have a "cheapest iphone 4 guarentee" thing at the moment, maybe this will carry over to the iphone 5? Although i guess this doesnt take into account airtime and texts.

You are just as bad as the people who blindly protect android phones and blackberry phones.

I would bet money on even the day that the iphone 5 comes out, there will be a better specced android phone available. Whether or not this will equal a better user experience is debatable.

There are tvs that have far better specs on paper than my 50" Pioneer plasma but I guarantee none will come even close to it in terms of build quality, picture quality, sound quality and usability. Trust me the iPhone will never be beaten ;)

like above mate, i would still choose the iphone for the user friendly interface and i love the programming over anything, im an Apple person! yet on paper, some HTC's and Samsungs are better, the new HTC 3D phone is meant to be insane, and theres a new samsung coming out thats meant to be a world record breaker for speed ect, so technically theyre better..

but id still choose the iphone! :homme:

Useless fact.

I will always have an iPhone, going from Apple to HTC, Samsung, Blackberry etc would feel like a step backwards, a big one.

And that says it all really. The iPhone is user-friendly, simplistic, stylish, powerful, reliable and very entertaining.

But it does miss things like;

Adobe Flash Player
More customisation options
Better camera

A 3D phone will be shit, just like the 3DS by nintendo.. you have to be looking straight at it, and still its nothing all that amazing.. Fair play, its a step forward in tech, but its nothing all that special to experience, you cant show a friend anything, like a youtube clip or anything, because only one of you will get the 3D..

Waste of time and money.

iPhone may be out out spec'd, but it still wont be beaten on userbility, and the things it can do.. a jailbreak makes an iphone like nothing else on the market.. Other phones just up the cameras and shit to make it seem all that much better...

have you seen the new 3D phone at all or are you just guessing? with 2 5megapixel cameras on the back making it 10megapixel HD quality in 3D? no need for Glasses. it has band width to use all over the world and has the capability to connect to multiple masts to grab the best signal for mobile data on the move. let alone the INSANE multitasking and street view in HD quality as a little free perk, something iphone can never do.

i wouldnt buy it, like said before id still get the iphone for all its other uses as i love it for design and general user friendly interface, but there are VERY high spec phones out there.

You can do street view on the iphone lol, how did ya not know this, so useful!

Having the 2 cameras wont make it 10mp either, they will just be used to create 3d video. (either way full HD video is always 1920x1080 pixels.)

not with a free app/or something already provided with the phone, and iirc its not the official google street view, as i tried it in training last week, asked an apple manager him self and he said no lol

and i thought the same, but believe me its 10megapixel, as the 2 camera's cross verge over eachother, which doubles the amount of pixels in 1 area ect making it 10megp altogether...believe me i tried debating that it wasnt and got proved very wrong lol

You can do it with the built in maps app lol, you just hold your finger on a spot, once it has dropped a pin click on the little man... I just compared pictures on street view in chrome and its exactly the same pictures. Seems the apple manager didnt know shit lol.

We will have to agree to disagree about the camera thing... :p

stats mean nothing really, who cares if a fone loads an internet page or an app 0.5 of a second faster than the next phone? its all about simplicity, user friendliness, etc like stated above, this is why iphones are 100 x better than blackberrys, their text is so much easier to read and theres no fafing around with the middle button. people may move from an iphone to a blackberry or HTC but 99% of the time will regret it

nah your right, stats do mean nothing, suppose thats why they have stats, because they mean nothing at all, makes sense really.

iphone's are so good it means EVERY other phone is shit, only iphones can do everything right.

I know other phones can be amazing.. But it doesnt matter on the quality of the 3D, its still going to be like the 3DS no matter what, to make it so you dont need glasses, which means yoou are going to have to be looking at it straight on..

Also apps will probably cost more in 3D, and only certain things on the phone will appear in it.. No doubt it will be packed with cast amounts of tech, just cant see the 3D aspect being all that good, because quite honestly, i think the 3D on the 3DS is gash..

I havent even bothered upgrading to the iphone 4 from my 3gs, none of the upgrades bothered me apart from the screen. My 3gs never lags but any upgrade in speed cant be a bad thing i spose.

The retina display is a big jump, but apart from that, the gap between the 3GS and the 4 is not huge.
