A few changes to the MOT.....

2011 VOSA changes to MOT (http://wrecks2riches.co.uk)

From December 2011, the below changes will come into force, which will be very bad news for some.

HID lights – Specifically those aftermarket kits that give the very bright headlight beams. Any cars found with these kits will be an automatic MOT failure. Testers are able to easily spot the difference between HID kits, and manufacturer fitted Xenon’s. Easy to spot as Xenon cars have suspension level sensors, in car beam adjuster, and usually headlight washers.

Chipped ECU’s - Unsure of just how/if this one will realistically be enforced, but any cars with chipped ECU’s will in theory be an MOT failure. I can only assume VOSA have found an easy way of checking ECU software through the cars OBD port (diagnostic plug).

Wiring harness – The general condition of the wiring harness will be checked to make sure there is no rubbing or chaffing, and that the harnesses are in generally good condition. If unsecure, or damaged again MOT failure.

Airbag warning lights - If any warning lights are illuminated, it will again be an MOT failure.

afarik . . . no.

1) how will they check youre ECU ? OBD and diagnostics is easy enough, but do you think Vosa are willing to throw thousands into every station in teh country to give them the ability to do this.
also, this will lengthen the time of the MOT.
2) check the wiring harness... how long, is the loom in the engine bay...how much of it can you see clearly, 10% ? with new cars, you open the bonnet and you cant see a bloody thing. a tester will not, take the engine / covers appart to check wiring.

its like vosa said they were thinking about putting CCTV in mot bays to check that work is being done correctly.
this wont happen.

personally, i dont see it happening.

How about the HID bit though, thats the bit i'm wondering about as i've had HIDs before and was about to buy some for the sax. :/

HIDs are not illegal. the problem with them, is the installation. most chimps think they can do it perfect, and end up putting the bulb in upside down. 9/10 when you change a bulb teh lights need to be alligned. thats their issue.
fit them correctly, with the right bulbs and covers and there should be no issue.

why can a new car have them fitted as standard, to improve visibility, and "safty" but you cant in your saxo? rules of the road are for EVERYONE not just the selected few with new cars.

what about aftermarket ecu's such as dta, pred ect?

there is talk about banning "after market" products that do not match OEM spec!
as for Ecus etc, its bullshit. new cars have ECUs the size of an ipod. is a tester supposed to know what EVERY ecu on the market looks like.

I think if you scale up the accident rate it will be ablut the same. Obviously TT ramps it up alot. Not including racers though. :n:

And you maybe ok...we will see....

hasnt the TT course, had a death for every 3 mile lol.

racing doesnt count.
we should scrap our speed limits on the open roads.

I think the RACING has 3 deaths for every mile! But open roads not sure...
There are road signs with the amount of deaths in 3 miles....They just black tape over one and increase it :n: Its horrible.... But this is not a IOM thread.

And i agree about scrapping UK speed limits. TBH i reckon you could scrap ALL speed limits and you will obviously still get cunts, but most people will be normal and drive like 30 in a built up zone anyway. IMO of course...

I agree there jay, A simple sign in most places will not stop cunt's driving like the stig because there corsa has blue bucket seats :n:

tbf, around town, i plod 20-30 mph, in the car or on the 6er!

as soon as i hit a sliproad and its quiet, im gone, flat out.
if there is traffic, ill just plod along, 70-90mph

even if the streets are empty, i might go to 40 instead. . .

what stops me, isnt speed cameras, or signs. but average cameras...if they used them, instead of cameras, it would lower the accident rate. as tbf, thats all anyone cares about, the accident rate.

but still, crashes are going to happen at 5 or 500 mph as there will always be some cunt, using a phone, sat nav, putting on make up.
IMO crashes arnt down to speed, its down to the driver not being capable of making the right decision. which needs to be picked up on.

ere, you were speeding, your going to jail
you were caught using your phone... dont do it again.

where is the sense in that

Ah so even in standard saxo headlights you reckon it would be okay as long as I get them aligned after and fit them the right way up? I was gonna get angels and put them in there but if they will be okay in standards then I'll put them in my smoked standards.

why can a new car have them fitted as standard, to improve visibility, and "safty" but you cant in your saxo? rules of the road are for EVERYONE not just the selected few with new cars.

I thought it as something to do with the lens being a different design to cope with the beam pattern of HIDs or some shite? :homme:

i agree the aftermarket kits should be an mot fail imo!

its annoying as fuck when you see a car thats had them put on with a cheap snide kit! may aswell drive with fucking high beams on!

but i dont see why having a re mapped ecu should be a fail!

Nope, he was quite strict actually and wouldn't pass my tinted rears, the car was fitted with projector headlamps as standard and he said they were fine, he was a bit iffy about the ones I had in the full beam though. :homme:
