Now my old install I had Focal components amped up front and a Focal sub bridged in the back - it was Awesome!
I've promised myself (and the wife) I'm not going to go mental with this one, so subtlety is the way forward (still have the sub and so tempting to use it but...)

JVC head unit installed atm (50x4) just powering the paper cones at the front, idiot before me put 6x9's in the back which I dutifully severed and threw them in 'any old' direction...Rubbish!
I need some components back up front, but concerned of seriously underpowering to the stage of unusable. Comps I was looking at were 90rms/140w peak and I know the head unit will only churn out 19rms useable per channel.
Question is, will the 19rms be strong enough to sufficiently drive the 90rms(max) components?
Thanks in advance..

quite simply, yes it'll be perfectly fine.

its an urban myth that underpowering speakers isn't good for them. this myth stemmed from people using amps with a lower rating that a speaker and thus turning the gain up to make up for it - resulting in a whole load of burnt voice coil

19wrms will be fine, not perfect, but fine. i've ran rainbows off a headunit before, and theyre still amazing. remember, it's 90wrms max for the speakers :)

coolio! thanks, wasn't sure if there would be a minimum input of rms to drive the coils (like a % of the rms max)
