Getting a new car hopefully around August September time, I've wanted a VTS since I've had the VTR but I've also wanted a Fiesta RS for years! So out of the two, which would you chose?

I'd get a VTS, Mk3 Fiestas are getting on a bit now and most are dog rough

Would consider the RST but not the RS1800

Pay the money for a clean RS1800 and you wont lose much,if any, money on it.

Do the same with a Saxo and watch it drop in price.

The RS badge has a following, the Vts badge dosn't.

Also when you drive the RS,you wont feel like a complete plonker. You will look like some1 who has a proper interest in cars.

Its a forum to make Saxo drivers feel good about themselves and the car they drive.:P

Got to have something good come out of a Saxo.

on topic, would prefer a vts over an rs1800, 130bhp but they certainly don't go like it! but would prefer an rs turbo over a vts IF you can find a good one for reasonable money

nikl- why are you on saxp? you own a lifeless, boring disastra and every post is a dig at saxos!

that's like saying why consider a vtr when there is a vts, why a 328 when there is a an m3 etc etc

exactly my point. always always get the best of the model if you can.
If you cant get an rs turbo, get the vts or 106 gti. Never settle for the lower spec model, you'll always be regretting it.

VTS. Ford engines from that era weren't very good and it will be much more rusty.

I'm on here because i stupidly made the mistake of buying a Saxo.Only good thing to come out of it was i made a profit on it.

Astra is pretty boring as standard,i'll agree with that. But ive improved mine to taste, its certainly not lifeless. Its been a fantastic car for my needs.

I like the community here.

Yeah I might be getting an Escort RS turbo now lol.

you do realise they are notorious for being even more unreliable than the fiesta rs turbo don't you? and they make saxo's feel like they were built by rolls royce in comparison and they have similar handling to that of a boat. lol, seriously look into a LOT more!

Haha, I'll probably end up just getting the VTS after all of this, but I'd love an RS turbo tbf, we'll see. Most of the escort rs's have all been thrashed around aswell!

You'll have a problem finding a nice RS no doubt. Go for the VTS IMO :)

A lot of people slate them and to be fair it is for good reason. I've always wanted an escort rst but I know I will never buy one unless I come into some money so I can have it purely as a toy. They are getting on quite a bit now and even in standard form they can be pretty unreliable now!

The saxo despite the chav following and bad name it has is actually quite a good car hence why it became so popular and in the 4 years I've owned mine I can honestly say it has been a very reliable car for the performance it has given and I trust it far more than I trust my nissan which are famed for their 'japanese reliability'!

buy a mint VTS and dont worry about sourcing parts for it.

The 2nd one is massively over-priced,but the 1st 1 is a steal at that price. Its pretty immaculate.Bet you could buy that and sell it on the RS forums and make a decent profit.

And i bet on the road, there would be nothing it it between an RS1800 and a Vts.

18th May 2011, 16:59
If you intend to use the car everyday then get a VTS. I like fords but with the rs1800 and the escort turbos unless there mint your mechanic will be your best mate mine was

Dave_P
18th May 2011, 18:37
Dont buy a fiesta rs turbo, 4 turns lock to lock steering, no pas option, cooling fan is on all the time because the radiator is too small, this causes issues with the fuse box.

The rs 1800 would be a better option but then the vts is more fun to drive.

why even consider a RS1800 when you can get an RS turbo? seems silly to me.

basically same bhp rs1800= 130 bhp rst = 132 bhp but with the turbo related problems (seals turbo lag ect)

over the two i would go for the rs1800 130 bhp out of the box, zetec relability, yes they rust but get a good one and wax oil it every year and it'll be fine. if your wanting turbo power then go zetec turbo, stronger engines than the cvh the rst have. n/a zetecs have the potential of 310bhp obvs you'd have to spend some dollar to get that lol. the rs1800 is a rare car that the FRST to start with.

but tbf i hate the mk3 fiesta always have always will if it were me personally i'd go out and get a mk2 XR2 with a 130 spec 1.8 zetec with piss all over a vts with power to spare, they don't rot as bad as the mk3 either. really easy to put a zetec in an xr2 also its a very popular mod so plenty of off the shelf conversion parts. put it on some bike carbs running megajolt and see 150-160 bhp add a decent exhaust and a set of kent cams and you'll be laughing. will always go up in value, or just get a lower spec (ghia ect) non sunroof and make it a right sleeper 150 bhp and 750kgs power to weight ratio would be mad and it is even with just a std 1.8

if you have a look on www.xrtwo.com it will show you some of the mk1/2's with the conversion and how to do it. it is a relativly simple thing to do. also NO cats !!!!! :D

and before anyone say wtf u on about i own a mk2 fiesta as shown in my dp :P

What would you know you own a astra with the 2.2 engine which is the worst engine ever built................

In what way is it the worst engine ever built?yes its underpowered, but has bags of torque all throughout the rev range.
Timing chain is also an issue but thats easily sorted for around £110.
Other than that its regarded as a pretty good, bulletproof motor by those in the know.
Its also an all alloy engine so rather lightweight.Supercharger from a chevvy cobalt ss bolts right on too and good for around 260bhp on standard internals.

I would be interested in your personal experience of the z22se though to see where you get your opinion.

The RST will have more torque through the rev range. And is just cooler:y:

My statement was more towards where the torque is availabe. Its not just up the top end.

What makes for a good driving motor is where it has bhp and torque figures close to each other.

Rs is very rare in useable condition

Vts will own it all day
