View Full Version : Admiral and S' conv.
bascially was wanting to drop an S engine in and the rough plan was
Drop S engine in
Tell DVLA
Ring Admiral to renew
They ask for Reg number
They find out on DVLA database its now 16v
I dont mention engine conv.
But now... admiral have automatically renewed the policy a month before it ends because we didnt act quick enough
Which mean if i S it now... ill have to tell admiral "engine conversion"
Are admiral arsebandits for this? or are they lenient?

admiral are generally cheap, didnt particularly like me when i declared mods so i dont think they will be too friendly on an engine conversion. worth a ring up and ask them for a quote if you did do it.
Yeah, with the multicar thing is about £500 less than anywhere else :/

they weren't happy with me when i swapped my old 1.2 in my corsa for a C20LET 2.0 Turbo engine

That the "conversion" part of it, or the size of the engine?

I'd recommend phoning them before doing the conversion, because I'm not sure they cover engine swaps.
Last thing you want is to phone up to declare it and they cancel your policy there and then.
&The DVLA are dicks when it comes to changing over engine size. So the plan of action I'd suggest is: Phone Admiral, call DVLA, then do the conversion.

Both mate :)
I had to do a lot of blagging to get them to insure me :y:
Update
Was amusing listening to my mum explain to the guy from admiral about what i was asking for
but the decision was... no, they cant insure me
only way then would be to have done the conversion before the renewal and kept quiet :/

But that way would mean you are driving with void insurance.
Try a specialist insurer.

well if you had a crash, you'll have no insurance, bit silly really. you'll be driving round in a car that you've put abit of money into and be scared to drive it incase you crash!

you may aswell just buy a vts mate, im sure most insurance companies wont insure conversions and if they do they want proof that its been fitted by a reputable garage and they will shaft you on the premium

Admiral never asked for proof when i put my C20LET turbo engine in my old corsa, they just asked me if it had more power than my old 1.2 haha

^ You'd still need to tell em even if you had the log book updated.
The agreement is that all information provided is 100% accurate, and the 16v conversion would come under modifications. So you'd need to declare it to them either way.
Your best bet would be to give Adrian Flux or Brentacre a call, as they'll often insure cars with engine conversions no problem.

Not really
Dont rely on the DVLA 's system..
It is down to YOU to make sure your car is insured properly!

alot of what theyll insure u on is how the person on the other end enters it into their system,
for example an air filter can be a breathing mod, or engine modification
try wording it so it doesnt sound as bad but dont lie,
such as, youll be changing the engine because yours is old/crap/braking and going to change from 1.6 8v to 1.6 16v and see what they say then..
rather than, y0 sick m8, im gettinz a f0okin VtS engin3, its r4pid now init!
