View Full Version : '02 Leon Cupra R 210 Flash Red - Wheels refurbed!! Coilovers arrived!!

After struggling to decide between a Cupra and a 330ci I was driving home on Saturday and this was on a roundabout 50m from my house. Went to view it and after a test drive decided it was the right choice!
Fantastic to drive, so much smoother and powerful than the Sax but not as much fun around the twisties! Managed to get a few pics before it got dark tonight but haven't really had chance to give it a proper run due to work.

Managed to get it pretty cheap in the end after a bit of discussion with the female owner's Father. Some bad points such as the front wheels need a refurb but my plans were to get them done in Anthracite anyway. Also, the front splitter needs to be put back properly as she caught it on a curb the night after I viewed it. Currently completely standard so a fresh canvas for me to work with.
Future plans:
Lower
Refurb wheels and powdercoat Anthracite
Refurb Brembos to bring the colour back
Front splitter carbon wrapped
Smoked side repeaters
Carbon wrap SEAT 'S' badges front and back
HID kit as the lights a poor
Induction kit/panel
FMIC
Full Milltek exhaust system
Stage 2 remap to around 270bhp
Tart up the engine bay, pipes, etc
Hope to get some more decent pics on the weekend providing the weather is fine to get some work done.

Aye thats the problem. Would look great at first until I catch it. The car is pretty low as standard and the girl that owned it caught it a few times. I am quite careful though but no doubt it will happen soon

Couple more pics I took a few nights ago. Can't decide on the colour for the wheels when I get them refurbed. Do I stay standard Silver or go a sort of Anthracite?

I was deciding between this or my TT, but in the end the TT was cheaper insurance and the BAM 225 engine so is win win :D
(P.S. Get anthracite wheels)

I think Anthracite would look good with some smoked repeaters
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seat-Leon-Mk1-Cupra-FR-T-Crystal-Smoked-Side-Repeaters-/350466996787?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item519975fa33#ht_2382wt_905
Only problem is, I will have to get the wheels done one by one as I dont have a spare set to go on.

Do you reckon the Blue/Polished scheme would look good in my red car?
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh109/ToonArmy47/Car%20stuff/Leon/100_0623.jpg
I was thinking of doing it Red/Polished but then maybe it will be too much red? I cant decide which will look best! Obviously the bay needs a bit of cleaning first though
So Blue/Polished or Red/Polished?
Opinions would be much appreciated :y:

I know mate. The flash from the camera makes it look worse than what it is though lol. Gonna start getting some work done on it soon. Got a new Thermostat and Lambda sensor to fit next weekend to get it running right, then its time for some mods!
Is the A3 similar to the S3? A lot of guys use the covers from the S3 in their Cupras and it look pretty good.
timmythechef
6th June 2011, 08:02
If your looking for S3 covers you'd need the 8l chassis (drews shape) rather than my 8p chassis shape, can't see why it wouldn't fit, same engines
GJF47
6th June 2011, 09:08
It needs a bit of modding to fit properly. And you need the 5l water bottle I think. I'll have to have a look at the guide for it.

Bit of a tiny update for now. Fitted a new rear wiper from the Fabia as the standard ones are complete crap!
Also got the front Aero Flat blades to go on over the weekend. A short stubby aerial from a Type R will also be going on as I hate long aerials!

Not the best pics but we were in a rush to get home :p
The colour is quite dark from some angles but lighter from others. It has a fantastic shine in the light when the sun came out for 2 minutes.
Need to get the Brembos done next as they look awful and hopefully in the next couple of weeks the spoiler, mirrors and badges will all be carbon wrapped when the guy doing it has some free time :)

Honestly think the wiper is just as bad as the last one mate, I would have went for the newer shaped golf one, alot smaller and flatter. Just my opinion tho man. Screaming out for coilovers tho haha

The wiper is much better tbh. The old one was really noisy and squeaky and would leave most of the water on the window! This one is so smooth and you cant hear it at all.
Very tempted by coilies but I've already had to change the splitter once after catching it on a few speedbumps so may just get some 30mm springs. HID's next which should be here on Friday so I can get them fitted on the weekend :y:
D--R--E--W
21st September 2011, 23:38
Might be a better wiper but I was meaning for looks, the golf one is nice and small and proper flat. I'm sure you'd be fine on coilies man, mine is -100mm at the rear and -108mm at the front. You done or doing engine mods?

Will be booking in for a cat-back system soon. Then the usual Forge 007p, Jetex cone + heatshield and a remap. Can't decide whether to go with a FMIC and stage 2 or just go stage 1.
I want to get most of the cosmetics done first though. The brakes need painting as they look awful plus there are loads of stonechips on the bonnet and it is covered in swirls. Previous owner didn't spend much time on it by the looks of it :n:

Oh yeah if I get a FMIC I will defo go Stage 2. Not sure if I fancy paying out that much for it though tbh. Gutted that I missed one on Ebay a while ago that went for £82 or something like that. Does the TIP make a lot of difference?
Its pretty lumpy on startup recently but fine when it warms up. Thinking it could be the coils or MAF?

Yeah the TIP makes a big difference man, the spool up noise with that and a jetex filter is unreal haha
Might be the MAF :y:

The TIP are from Badger5 are they? I'll have a look into them over the weekend, cheers mate. You have the Jetex, TIP and Forge 007p on your S3?
Going to clean the MAF as well but I forgot the alcohol cleaner from work so it will have to wait until Monday now.
Got some funny problems going on at the moment. First my fogs would come on whenever I turned the lights on, whether it was the sidelights or dipped it would still happen even though the switch was off. Today, the fogs have gone off but the drivers sidelight is staying on all the time even when the car is parked up and locked. Its started happening since I unscrewed the lower dash to change the Clutch switch so maybe something has come loose behind there

Have a forge TIP and an 80mm Jetex, took the 007p off as won't be needed when I go gt28r turbo. Standard DV dumps louder anyways haha
And I have no idea with the about can defo say... Welcome to the world of German Electrics lol
GJF47
25th September 2011, 15:55
Standard DV louder than the Forge? Really? I don't really want the loud sound anyway and I've heard the standards are prone to failing.
Gave the car a full wash today while it was fine and gave it a layer of Dodo Orange Crush. Also used some Megs Endurance Gel on the tyres so the wheels look much better now

Bit of an update after not touching the car for a while. Had a new cat-back system done in ProSpeed just before Xmas. Poor quality photo but I'll grab a video soon. I wasn't impressed at first but after sticking it out for a few weeks it sounds great, nice and deep and with the odd burbling sound.

I am enjoying it mate, even more since getting the Jetex. The woosh sound is amazing. Just need to get a Forge 007p and a 3" TIP and then it's time for a remap. Still got a few cosmetics to sort as well. The bonnet is covered in stonechips so I'm getting that sorted soon.

I do mate. The guy that bought my old lowering springs off me last week had one fitted. He says it was an improvement over the 007p as well.

Cheers mate. It has been dropped but the back needs adjusting. I'm waiting for my spacers to arrive and when the rear is levelled up I'll get some pics.
I'll be getting mine mapped when I've fitted a new Diverter Valve and a 3" TIP. Hoping for around 260 - 280bhp afterwards.
