Just saw this story but know there's not a lot of users on here from the IOW.

Officers from Shanklin Roads Policing Unit are investigating a collision which happened on Ashey Road at the junction with Deacons Lane, Isle of Wight, yesterday. (weds18)

The collision happened shortly after 6pm and involved a Honda CBF motorcycle and a Citroen Saxo.

Life-threatening injuries
The rider of the motorcycle , a 34-year-old Ryde man was taken to St Mary’s hospital by ambulance where his injuries were established to be life threatening.

He underwent emergency surgery and his condition is now described as stable.

The 18-year-old Saxo driver was shaken but uninjured.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact PC Martin Norman at Shanklin Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Knowlton.

Alternatively call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.

Im sure he will post on here as soon as he sees this..

btw, is there a reason you put 18 year old and saxo driver in one sentence described as not good? I thought this was kinda the norm?

Are you Bi-Polar and suspect this might have been you in your other personality or something?

Possibly. :(
I did have to check that my car was still outside in one piece when I read this story though...

Are you suggesting the driver of the Saxo was in the wrong? Because there is no evidence of that just yet lol.

Not nice to hear of a fellow biker knocked off though.

JDub
19th May 2011, 11:41
Nope I was suggesting that it won't look good on the driver, on the Island 90% of accidents involving motorcyclists, the car driver gets the blame.
Also not good in the way the saxo will be in a mess, and I'm sure the driver of the Saxo (whether he's at fault or not) will still feel just as bad!

I know the junction and there's a hill right next to it, if one or the other had come over the hill too fast and the other was pulling out of the junction they'd have had no chance.

dunno

Holy crap, i hope that bike rider is alright!

This is why saxo drivers get a bad name :/

People are jumping to the conclusion the saxo is in the wrong. Wait until the evidence comes together...

because a bike rider rode into a saxo that was parked up at a junction?

im down on the iow 4-5 times a year, some of the roads are immense, also ive had a few near misses with bikes. in the missus punto, she was driving. pulled up at an iffy crossraods on a hill. struggling too see left or right, and suddenly theres a bloke on a bike 2inches off our bumper. he had clearly over cooked the previous corner and was soo close to wiping himself out!
hope the bikers ok, but not necesarily the car drivers fault either.....

If there's ever an accident with a car and a bike then i'm pretty sure it's always the cars fault.

Evening all. I'm the driver of the saxo that is involved, i was pulling out of my drive way on my way to work. nice to see all the boyracer quotes and what not... I use the junction atleast 4 if not more times a day as my driveway pulls out onto it. I have been on the road since i was 16 driving tractors and what not being a farmer therefore its not like I'm some jumped up kind of new driver, this whole boy racer what not.

Thoughts are with the biker and hope he makes a full quick recovery.

Random question cheeeko, is that the unmarked police Skoda?

Also, obviously nobody knows the ins and outs of what happened, but really hope everything goes okay for you and the motorcyclist whatever did happen.

Ah, off topic but I had that Skoda watching me working on my car the other day, proper weird bloke. Kept driving past, turning round, driving past, and repeating several times before speeding off.
