View Full Version : Important! : Strange whirring noise. ..
Hi guys. . really hope one of you peeps can help. Have a 98 vts. . with 78,000 on the clock. . lately she has developed a whirring sound which only happens when the clutch is engaged. . its louder at low speeds. .
Check alot of the threads on here. . which all point to alot of different answers. . gearbox oil, thrust bearing....has anyone else had this problem? Drop the clutch and then noise dissapears. . re-engage it and its back. . im praying its only low gearbox oil. . as i have just spent close to £300 getting her cammed and a lightened flywheel.

yeah this happened to me.. its the thrust/release bearing.
you'll need a clutch kit and 2L of gearbox oil.. should cost less than 100 quid if you get a friend to help you to do it yourself :y:

Schweet. . nice one dude. . thought the gearbox was on its way out. . 100 nicker aint to bad. . is it worth putting an uprated clutch in at this point? :A:

Well, i bought a cheapy one and I cant fault it at all.. but then again i do have a 1.1 lol
I cant see uprated clutches making a difference from the mid range ones for the price to be honest. but who knows :D
Oh by the way.. your clutch doesnt need replacing as soon as possible.. it'll hold up a few thousand miles or so :) so if you cant afford to do it right away, dont worry about it :y:

Lol. . the noise she is making is terrible though . . im having to drive with the windows down, and the stereo pumping just to drown it out. . hmm. . so few thousand miles eh?. . lovely stuff. . seen one on ebay at £50. . what dya reckon the labour charges on this would be. . drop the box and fit? :y:

50 sounds alright.. mine cost about that.. :) got mine from a motor factors though

Ok buddy. .cheers for your help. . gonna have to watch the pennies this month. . and let the pounds look after themselves. . i feel guilty running her like that. . but it'll be sorted! :A:
