£10,000, the car in question most likely will only cover circa 5k miles a year or so, it has to be 300 or more bhp, no older than 2003/2004, insurance isn't a worry as i have no claims built up from 17 years old.

i'v come up with a 05 plate scooby STI running 340bhp (the scooby in question is quite modified though) WR1, E46 M3, lotus elise (if its possible to obtain?) mk1 FRS tuned (owned one previously though so not keen on another ford to be honest)

any other ideas?

2 seater, 4 seater, coupe, 4door, FWD, RWD, AWD, comfort, for track only, turbo, NA, so so many options out there.

I'm sure theres a reason you already have those cars in mind, and it's most likley to be because you want them more!

best advice is to go test drive a few different things at see what you want / like best. no point asking a bunch of saxo drivers who've not driven much more than a VTR in their lifetime dude

Dont let the age of a car put you off mate.

As for choices, for me i'd be looking at GTR's, Supra TT's, RX 7's etc etc.

^ happy with that

Always make's me laugh how people come on a Saxo forum saying help me decide what car to purchase for x amount of money. The majority are sprogs with little or no knowledge of a high performance car and how they drive, the value, the decrease in value and running costs for a year etc. Is your decision really gonna be based on what someone said on a forum.
But the e46 m3 was never in doubt :)

Buy my 340BHP 03 Plate Subaru

Lies.. its only 336bhp, its only worth 5.5k now:y:

Edit: M3 for 10k? Are they really that cheap? Surely not

For a good M3 your budget will be blown.

I think as someone already pointed out, the running costs of such cars are mental. My last two cars cost me in a year just in services and consumables more than 2k.

Plus if any big shit happens you need thousands to sort it.

Edit to add - 450 quid tax, 20 mpg and high insurance.

Oh and i lost about 4k in depreciation a year.

Completely agree with this, My mates got a 55 plate Vxr and if the engine or turbo was to go bang, thats 2k just for the parts right away.. In comparison to lets say A saxo? lol engine goes bang and £200 quid later its running again. I know they're not in the same league but with subaru's common problem is bottom end and i guarantee its a £1000 all day long for labour. M3? Imagine the repairs on that, IIRC the spolier alone, second hand is like £1200? You must have very deep pockets:y:

All that and you pick that bit out lol, £2k for the engine i just worded it poorly. Havn't a clue what a turbo unit would cost, probably about £1200?

can i see the link so i can read the terms and conditions of this ''warranty'' ? is it like for like or just replace it back to standard? :y:

i know i asked on this forum but there are some people that own more than vtr's

as for the vxr - i HATE them with a passion, i just think they scream chav and they dont go quickly at all. my EP3 with kpro killed one easily. :y:

As an ex scoob owner i'd have to recommend one of those, but don't let age put you off..... a new one will be heavier and although may feel more planted, will cost you a lot more. Get an older (lighter) one with more mods for MUCH less money and then you have lots of change for upgrades (or repairs) as necessary. Bottom ends DO go on them, but not if you treat it right..... a lot of scooby owners really do abuse the hell out of them so would kill any car!!

Other than that suggestion, take an evo for a drive - they really are truly mental....

My all time dream car would be a single turbo RX-7, but with the mileage i do and their need for rebuilds it kinda puts it way out of reach until i can afford to run two cars. With you saying you're only gonna be doing around 5k a year it migth be a possibility.

In terms of running costs, i can't see there being much in it once you get over 300bhp.... whatever you get is gonna cost LOTS for insurance, have rubbish mpg, costly servicing and will cost the earth to fix if you have major troubles. The latter point being my main reason for going slightly lower with your budget, so you have a reserve for any "unexpected" costs in the future - unless of course you have a mattress stuffed with £20 notes........

Depends what you want though!

twin turbos can be awesome.

other halfs is a TT 600BHP one.

its niiaccce, reliable, and only breaks when he hits the kerbs sideways....
