Following the thread about deciding to buy a car, I manned the fuck up and got the car that I wanted.
Dream car. 1986 Volkswagen Golf 'Clipper' Cabriolet 1.6CL.
I didn't believe it, but backed up by previous MOT Certificates... Only 57k Miles covered.
There is NO rust to the body, yes everywhere has been checked. Even under those arches where I've seen so many rust before. The only damage to the body is a little peeling on the bonnet; there is the odd ding here and there but hardly anything for a 25 year old car.
Interior is the coolest interior I have ever come across. Everything inside is mint, polished and tidy. Pretty showroom standard inside.
Here are pictures from the advert:

Yeah this isn't really going anywhere, but I haven't been this eroused in a long time. I can't explain my mood. I have been off the road since October as my Vtr died. Thought i'd share it with the world. ...Of Sax-p.

nice. i loved my cabby when i had it. just watch for leaf build up and gunk under the rain tray. if it rains vw decided that it would send it into the passenger footwell. and get a new roof for it. makes so much difference.
welcome to the world of scene tax aswell.

got any plans for it mate?
Well of course. ;)
(These aren't big plans, just a few subtle things to start her off) Firstly I'll be grabbing a car cover for it, so it still stays in as good condition as it is in. Then a friend's dad will cheaply do a superb respray of the bonnet (which I'll decide if I want a bra for it at the time). Then pressed plates, they add so much more to the car and the current plates are battered. Then she will sit lower, after I have had the wheels all refurbished and placed BBS caps on them.
After that, the possibilities are endless :zainy:
Did you pull the carpets up to see if it leaks?
Nah, but I trust it. And it shouldn't be too hard to fix if it does leak and it's staying under cover. :A:

It's a beaut! :y: Do you not have her anymore then?
I think i'll probably stick with the standards, just have them refurbished with BBS caps. Atleast for the time being.

I think get them refurbished, painted, and with some stretched tyres. :p Although it's not going to be for a while yet unfortunately. :wall:
Not sure what to do with the rear badges yet, but i'll keep the VW on the grill for now, I like it. :geek:

It's people like you that put a smile on my face :A:
I would never have thought I would have been able to get one in a million years, as i'm young with not too much money and these are collectibles! But to own one was defiantly a dream that has happened so soon. My childhood friend who I have known all my life, his dad has a GTI cabby in his garage and only ever used it in the summers and I remember how cool it was and I just love old VWs generally, so I have come across a deal of luck. :D (for once)
I deserve it after things not being too great recently :n: and being on foot since October as the Spax died on me... Which when you go from driving a year and a half to suddenly having to use public transport and foot, you don't half notice how suicidal it is. I have only just scraped enough pennies to pick this up so there wont be any instant changes to it, plus its amazing nick with all the standard parts so I'm not in a hurry anyway. I'm just happy to have something that I can look after, preserve and be proud of.

Hahaha in the end I couldn't sell her, she's had that much money poured into her it's basically a new car! Just need to upgrade the front subframe to have it totally done, mechanical wise lol

Those days when you get into the car on a hot summers day and as soon as the door opens, you feel the heat pour out. You then have to get inside the sauna and open windows and stick on the air-con and you can't touch a thing without burning yourself... I can just fuck that shit and rip down the roof. :A:
Cabriolet = Clunge too ofc. :afro:

:homme: As soon as I picked it up, you changed all plans for your next car (205, glanza V) and was like 'yeah can't decide between a err mk1/mk2 golf as next car yeah. So sick.'

Ahahaha, wait until it's red hot again, and you've left it parked in the sun with the roof down all day.... Fuck me, I can understand why people say convertibles with air con are good...

Yeah, I was basically being forced to get the Astra as it was ready for the road etc and papa said 'you turn up with that car on my drive and you'll be outta the house' :zainy:
Well, it's sitting on the drive now! So I haven't had an experienced drive of it yet, as it's sorn until friday... But it is beautiful. The interior is a thousand times more neater, classier, stylish and well made than the Saxos. (And its over twice the age?!) And it feels a lot better built to drive. Admittingly, when you approach a roundabout you touch the brakes earlier and go around it slower as no power steering in them is like steering the titanic... But generally I drive around with a boner, over myself yes. Seems a beaut to drive. :y:
I'll start a progress thread when I have some money come in! :fcuk:

You get used to the lack of power steering mate, and the brakes just make you concentrate more ;)
I know what you mean about build quality though, the fact that the dash board wraps all the way under instead of just leaving a sharp edge of plastic like the saxo makes it feel so much more solid. And they're more water tight too!

Yeah everyone was commenting about them leaking, and I thought it might be bad with a cabby. I have yet to test her on a terrible day down the M11, but I jumped into her after yesturdays downpour and not a speckle of water! :fcuk:
Not that I doubted her.... :afro:
Can't wait to get some money so that after she has been taxed and insured, I can have the bonnet resprayed and wheels refurbished and stick on some BBS caps. Such a beaut standard, i'm too scared to mod! Besides being broke. :zainy:
