New Question: Do ballasts need to be mounted in a ventilated area? Reason is i've got slim ballasts and one is mounted in the fuse box and the other under the ECU tray? There is now no problems with them but my mechanic said I shoudl check as they do get quite warm.

Ignore:I've recently fitted a HID kit to my VTR and the drivers side one works faultlessly. Most of the time the passenger one does also, but there is a slight problem, if i turn the HIDs on both will come on and warm up to temp as normal, but sometimes after going for a drive, ill stop and notice the drivers side on is on, yet the passenger side one has turned off, this is remedied by turning the lights off and back on, where it will then work again.

Does this sound like a ballast problem(I think so) or something else?

Cheers

Instant reaction would be ballast as i think what's happening is that it's getting to a certain temperature and maybe shorting out? check the earths first though

I have one of mine in the bigger fuse box and one is cable tied down by my alternator on the metal work....no problems with mine at all so far and they've been on a couple of months with almost non-stop use when i'm driving..

I don't have HIDs myself but, why don't you try swapping the ballasts around (just the ballasts and not blubs or wiring ETC) and if the drivers one goes off and the passanger one stays on, then you know it's a faulty ballast? Is this possible?

Karl, yeah one of mine is in the bigger fuse box by the battery, and the other under the ECU tray cover, basically on top of the ECU, seems fine so far so i'll just keep an eye on it :)

David, yeah i've sorted that problem now mate, did as you said :)
