Same happened to mines when running the standard head unit. Wasn't powerful enough and the subs cut off at a certain volume.

I'm not sure mate, all I know is mines done the same and it was all to do with the headunit not being able to cope.

Whats the max rating output on the preout for the amp? Do you have anything else tapped into it? another amp maybe running some components? or have you uprated the standard speakers still running off the headunit? You might just be seriously down on power, or try fading the amp down a bit, you will lose bass, but will be able to turn it up more :-)

on the headunit, there should be a max output for the RCA preout. For instance my Kenwood preout with a fair old whack through one preout to one amp, but if I plug another amp into the 2nd preout, chances are it will be too much and something will give. Everything has its limits and tolerances. If you weren't so far away I'd come take a look!
