View Full Version : Should i buy....?
right here goes....
wondering if i should buy my mates saxo (Black VTR) for £2.2k W reg, it is lowered 60mm only at the front *confused* tints on back 3 windows, pipercross induction kit, 51k miles, not sure on service history etc (though i did notice the spanner is on his dash so)
only thing that is making me wonder is....he crashed it about a month ago, someone pulled out on him. which resulted in a new bonnet, front bumper, radiator, fan and the bit of metal that goes across the front where the bonnet catch it and holds the lights in place. so not sure if that would be classed as CAT D write off or not.....
he had a new gear box put in abit before the crash so its got new gearbox, clutch, radiator and what i said above.
do you think it would be worth me buying for £2.2k?
long winded i know :P

Buying car's of mates is a risky business, if anything goes wrong it could cause problems between you.
he been thinking about selling for a good while anyway and nothing has gone wrong since he had it apart from gear box which the seller before said it was going.....then it did. im just thinking it sounds a very decent price for what it is and its had new things put on aswell.
would this crash he had show up on a HPI test?

if he went thru the insurance, yes it would. Depending on what they said regarding the matter ie. choose not to repair then it would be labelled a cat-d

well the crash wasn't his fault, insurance came round to check it, though they gave him £1.6k to get it fixed. that make it any clearer if its now labelled as a CAT D? if its now labelled as a CAT D....still think its worth the £2.2k?

its worth that for sure mate i would buy it just get a aa check done on it.
as for the catd i doubt it will be registered as they give your mate the money to repair the car, i could be wrong though.
may aswell get it checked up anyway....ill speak to my mum and dad about it tomorrow then. not gona be able to get it before sept though, wait till ive had a year exp ;) may send insurance down a tad, though should be cheap on my mums with her full no claims anyway. will also tell him i will more than likely buy it so tell him not to sell it to anyone :)

hi sounds like you all ready made your mind up to buy it ask him where he had it repaired and if a body shop did it should have a recipet for the the work that was done to it. if it was cos metic ie dident need to be pulled on a jig ?? to make it stright then its a good buy but if it has been on a jig then maybe not so good but as he is a mate of yours and you no all the history then thats good till u px or sell the car later on thats if its on the register ?getting it insured on it may cost more if its on a register .. make sure it does not pull to one side when you break in it but as i said you no the car so its up to you good luck
i know where he had the car fixed as its right next to my work and i know the guys who did it for him. not sure if he got a receipt though....what you mean when you say 'didn't need to be pulled on a jig'? i know it was still drivable as he drove it home and then to the garage after the crash and i know it doesn't pull or anything when braking. had a test drive in car park :P

My personal opinion is look elsewhere mate.
Any car that i had received a new gearbox with 51k on clock, i would walk away defo.
You can still pick private VTRs pretty cheap.
I agree with Luke, I would look around mate.
Look for a lady owner like i have just bought.
The car has obviously been ragged about, which put strains on parts and will probably cost you more in long run....might be cheap now but in parts etc...it won't be.

leave it well alone
i would never buy a car with mods on it as you dont know what the owners done to it
he could be a car park boy who likes to smoke ;)
what parts is it likely to put strain on, with it being 'ragged'.
but i know what he has done to it....was standard when he bought it
