I was thinking of widemouthing my standard mk1 front bumper and meshing it, would it look stupid doing something similar to the rear. And would I have to declare it on my insurance as a bodykit? As technically its still the standard bumpers? I really have no clue I'm new to it all and I cant find the answers searching??

Won't affect the insurance as its a o.e. part just paint the mesh black and you wont even notice its done. Yes it would look stupd doing it to the rear as there is nothing to cut out back there and if you do cut it our its just metal behind the bumper so will look shit.

I won't bother with the back then, I just want to take the plainess away from the rear bumper but can't afford another one and would like to keep the standard one on till my insurance comes down a bit

what you can do to the back though is have the bottom part of the bumper where it goes in sprayed seperate to give it kind of a diffuser look to it, if you know what i mean, also you should atleast ring you insurance company, because it is a modification you are doing to the car, it does alter from the standard manufatured car if you start chopping, painting and meshing therefor they might be able to screw you over if somthing bad was too happen (not saying its going to but better to be safe than sorry)

I think the diffuser look might be a better idea, yeah. I was gonna tell them anyway but I just thought that its not actually a bodykit so shouldn't hopefully be that bad.
Is yours a mk1 then or a mk2??
