smell of petrol inside the saxo

Iv got a 51 plate saxo vtr and recently theres been quite a bad stink of petrol on the inside of the car it also seems a bit less economical than usual.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

My old VTR used to smell of petrol inside, I just assumed it was the decat

my VTS is decatted and it stinks, I'm stripping it and was about to fault find it, how would the decat cause it?!?!?
