Evening kids.
I want to test drive a few new cars, Megane R250, Focus RS etc etc.
Whats the deal with them? Do they let you take them out alone or does someone come with you?
Im 25 so their insurance is'nt a problem, And their are practically throwing test drives around, So i thought i might aswell take advantage.
Most places it's dealer comes with, drives you out on a route, then swap midway.

it can vary tbh, why not ask the dealer

when i was 17 (didn't have my Pink card yet but passed my test) i had a 48 hour test drive of a Fiat 500 Sport. :)
so anything is possible, but tbh on something as specialised as that it would be only one where the dealer comes with.

I test drive a Clio 200 recently.. Woman from the dealership drove it out of the dealership, then I drove the rest. Even let me put my foot down on the dual carriage way.

Well, I've just booked a test drive in an R250 tomorrow afternoon, My mates taking me in her Fiesta so we dont look like total hooligans pulling up in a low and loud Saxo. I may give them a ring in the morning to check, I don't want to be having no dealer kerbing my right foot.

Dealer comes with and just sits in the back from my expierence. Hopefully you get a young lad who doesn't mind you testing your right foot :)

I sometimes just ring a manufacturer & they can arrange to have a car dropped off at your house for an extended test drive.
Audi sent a car up from the south coast & left it with me for a week
A3 sline 170
They also sent a man to collect it

I am all over this, What kind of information did they ask for? I cant see them being to impressed with my license tbh.

I take it that was recently, I don't think they really give a fuck about used cars tbh. I'm talking about 25k+..

It all depends on the individual. When I test drove the Fiesta the guy came with me but just said "Drive it how you would if it's yours. It's the best way because if you buy the car then you don't come back to me saying the car drives crap."
With your licence though they will probably laugh you out of the place

Years ago (when mk1 VTS were about 6k) I went for a test drive in one, just drove it really nicely, then asked the guy if I could give it a poke. He said yeah, so I hammered it a bit and chucked it round some roundabouts. At first he went for the jesus handles, but then he was just laughing.
Just dont come across as a dick and theyll probably let you give it some beans.
Depends on the dealership.
When I test drove the MK5 Golf GTi and Focus ST3, the salesman (and woman in the GTi) were reasonably relaxed and didn't mind too much but I could tell they were a bit cautious about how I used the car.
When I test drove a Subaru Impreza WRX PPP a few years back at a dealership (wont say which one...) the salesman was a reasonably young lad and he told me to really give it some on these lovely surrey country roads (he literally said, "Go on mate, first gear, boot it around that apex and see what she does".. so I obliged) He also did a 0-1*0 mph acceleration test with me in the car, which I thought was pretty mental. I was amazed how he was happy for me to completely rag it. I didn't even buy it afterwards lol..
But thats an exception. Give it some beans but be responsible and the salesmen should be alright.

Kit, just don't take the piss with how you drive and you'll be fine.
Don't be filming handbrake turns in it or anything like that.

Ive never had an issue with them.
I just drive if as if i would, if i owned it. . . . If you know how to drive a car, rather than thrash it, they arnt bothered.
From experience.
Will have to bring both parts of your licence and fill out a form, dealer man sits in the back and they are okay with you testing its performance.
I like buying a new car, all those free drinks and biscuits. Banter etc.
With the Boxster i had a test drive in the 911 Turbo just for fun. Fuck me it was rapid!

I think thats bollox tbh, If someone is looking to spend strong money for a new car they should be able to test drive it alone, Im sure these big manufacturers can afford the insurance.

You might get lucky mate, although these days they usually do come out with you.
Back in 2001 Skoda let me and my dad out in a demo Octavia vRS just before it's official launch, they gave us the keys and said be back in 40 minutes for the next customer.
Not sure how many people do that still mind..

Why's it bollocks, it's their car not yours, and why should they have to pay insurance if you bend it/any damage from you driving it like a cunt.
Not least the fact that with the amount of scams going on one could drove the car to a port and have it shipped off to Nigeria for 1 million Ugandan dolla'

Im not talking about little car dealerships, Im talking Fordthorne etc. As already said, Some Company's will drop a car off to your house for a number of days.
I know for a fact a lad i know haggled a 911 for an hour for him and his Mrs last year, If Porsche can do that im sure Ford can do it with a Focus.
They dont tend to just hand out cars freely, even if you do have £30k to spend.
When the girlfriend sold the Audi the dealer suggested taking a car for the day, but I think it was because we had been customers and they had already earned thousands from us. lol

Yeah that would have been a dream, shame they didnt have any there at the time. :n:
I did try when I was getting mine serviced, I couldnt tell what he said through all the laughing.

It's not often you get offered the car for a day/week. My dad just got a new car and that option was never mentioned.
Why would you expect a dealership to just give someone a car for the day when they don't know the first thing about you? Also consider the mileage adding to the depreciation of their demo car

Sometimes its best to play it cool, when I went to the a unnamed German performance car dealership I turned a test drive down of their top of the line turbocar.
The salesman then spent the next week offering allsorts of extended test drives to get me to try the car.( I never took him up on the offer as it was simply toomuch money for me)
However sometime if you apply for a brochure on line , all sorts of freebies appear through the post.
Like a full day out on an off road course with a 4x4 manufacturer
