Has anyone ever been on one?

I've been looking at learning Italian on an intensive course in Italy :y:

But lacey, I would do it! Going there and doing it and being in actual proper situations is the best way! When I went to france I was alright at it and came back a load better!

this is where EVERYONE is wrong... you dont have to learn another language.
everyone else knows english. but be polite about it learn the following

"sorry please excuse my poor ______" spanish, french, german etc!

they then see you are making an effort and will talk in english to you.

Expensive though, but if you can find it for free somewhere/how (who knows how one would accomplish such a act of piracy) my mate has learnt Chinese to a really high standard teaching himself, can't remember in what time frame. But a latin language is vastly easier so I can't imagine it taking that long.. He reckons a latin based language can be learnt using the program he uses (think it's Rosetta Stone) to a reasonable standard in like 6 months. Guess it depends how much motivation you have/how easy you learn.

Best way is to immerse yourself in the language. I did a foreign placement in Madrid when I was younger, went there not knowing a word, 3 months later I was happily chatting away to the locals :)
