View Full Version : Admirals low mileage policy
Basically, my deposits on a 56 plate Focus ST2
quote from admiral for £2391 on confused.com so i rang them and gave my reference number to be told, its only so cheap because admiral want to put a tracker in my car to make sure im doing reduced miles (i set it to 5k a year, reaslistic for me) without them putting the tracker in, its £3042.
What does the box also check? the chap mentioned it doubles as a tracker incase its stolen too, im not asking admiral anymore, cos theyll just bullshit me, really dont like the idea of big brother watching me, but seems ive not got a choice

A mate just got this and they said they can track the car if stolen
I dont like the idea of it, fair play people lie about mileage but say your use of the car increases....how much would the policy increase!
Yeah that was one bonus, but the guy from admiral said somthing about driving economically, theres no way a tracker can say... you were in this gear at this RPM
but if theyre watching me on a map, and says im doing 80-90 on the motorway... :/

They dont do anything about speeds like that but instant ban speeds can invalidate your insurance.

how old are you/no claims? 3 grand to insure a focus, even if it is an ST, is a lot
20 with 2 years no claims, added my mum and dad to it, brought it down to 2300, because theres a low milage bonus, but paying montly doesnt qualify for the bonus so its 318.35 a month, which ill live with if i dont have to be tracked everywhere i go and im not gonna be sitting there thinking, i wanna go for a ride, but cant because ill go over my allowance of the year :/
like my dad said, its alot of car to be sat doing nothing

will track miles traveld, speed, g-forces (which they say is incase you have a crash, but is to see if you being a dick), current location.
im sure thats it.
i would rather eat my own shit than have one of those things in my car!!
imagine whn your runing late for work and take a round about abit to fast, then you get a letter the next week... FOOOOK THAT!!
EDIT - btw is this a new scheme ? im with admiral, only renewed a couple month ago and im only down for 6k a year and they didnt mention anything about this....
If you go on compare sites and bullshit saying "i only do 5k a year" then yeah it says you can qualify, thing is i genuinly do just 5k
seems like paying monthly stops you qualifying for the lovely bonus of them sticking some box in your car.. shame for me really, imma just pay £320 a month and enjoy the f*ck out of the car instead then

Mate fuck that it wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. Complete load of shit that having them track your every move.. the ONLY good thing is that it does double as a tracker...
They wanted me to go on this daft policy where it was like 800 quid for a years insurance but you had a box in the car and you couldn't drive between 11 at night and 7 in the morning... it disgusts me but I'd rather pay a shit load money than have a box like that in my car.
Just my opinion though.

15th July 2011, 18:02
Oh yeah and apparently if you did drive between those times you got a 400 quid fine?????:panic:
dunno
15th July 2011, 20:24
I've just gone on this scheme with admiral tonight, 6k miles and having the box installed in like 2 weeks.
I cant see the downside to it tbh because if my car is nicked they can find it & i doubt i will do more thank 6k miles.

18th July 2011, 10:52
The problem is, is that if you've said you only do 5k miles a year. The box will know if you go over and they charge you.
I'd never have one though.

I took a policy out a month agoish and didnt get this, is it for certain age or if you use your car for work or over a certain value or something?
dunno

I think its only recent & if you do under a certain mileage aswell...probably something like 8-10k but idk.
Rang up admiral today to find out more about it and they only use it to track your mileage but im sure if you where caught in a crash they would probably bring up the history to see if you where doing silly speeds.

i always put down 3k for mine and im also with admiral didnt get asked about tracker, personally i wouldnt put one of them in my car anyway........i have a problem with authority lol, would feel like someone watching you all the time, stuff that

I'm on 7k a year, didn't mention a tracker at all.
Probably because you are insuring an ST tbh.

fook me, thats expensive for car insurance, id tell them to suck spiders or get a realistic car thats affordable to insure.

paying for the privilege of having big brother in your car? fuck that. How about some insurance rep coming up each year to check your clocks. They probably thought of that but then they can spy on your every move.
quote for £2391
get another car until you build enough NCB
iw_laurence
20th July 2011, 05:41
How can they track your miliage anyway? What happens if your car is being towed, or someone who is covered third party on your car has been driving it? That will knock the miliage up even if it isn't you driving?
I bought a 56 plate focus ST2, 2.5 turbo...
Basically, avoid admiral, The low mileage policy is 3000miles and less and they fit this check box to watch you
The woman from admiral was an absolute joke, didn't help us at all, best quote was 389, so getting desperate we rang elephant (sister company of admiral) where we spoke to a chap who said we could have my car on the multicar policy
Long ass story short, me being 20 with 2 years NCB on the focus is 296 a month and my brother on my old vtr who's 18 with no no claims pays just 136 a month
All fully comp

Do you need an ST?
that insurance price is stupid to say the least.
sell up and buy something far cheaper perhaps? seems a lot of people are buying 'quick' cars at young ages and then complaining when they can't get insured cheaply on it.
i sure as hell wouldn't be paying any more than £1k a year for a car on insurance.
imagine what you could do each month with that £300 or so you've been quoted to insure the ST?

I came of the phone with them yesterday after trying to sort insurance for my 197.
I didnt take the policy as i didnt like the idea of knowing i had limited milage a year! only went up £150 to NOT have the box fitted anyway!
I know you can check on the internet how many miles you got left, but thats not the point! I'd hate to be constantly worrying about milage and stuff!
Something you dont want when your 20. You just want to get out and drive your car!
It's exactly the same as the curfew thing that some companies do!
Ended up not going with them, as found someone cheaper

Do you need an ST?
Exactly what I was thinking
Young lad buys powerful car
Young lad then comes on saxp to bitch about how expensive insurance is
I didn't need a 106 GTI at 17, hence the reason I bought a smaller engined car.
Now at 24, I still dont NEED a 106 GTI but can afford to insure one for almost the same price as a 1.1.
People that buy VTR/VTS or other powerful cars with little driving experience and then moan about insurance prices will get no sympathy from me.....
to be fair, ive not once bitched about the cost
its the shit service, yeah £296 a month is alot, but i work hard for my money, did 111 hours one week (will scan the wage slip for the naysayers)

Thats a lot of hours! i genuinely think i'd die if i did that much lol. theres only 164 hours in a whole week :o
fair play, i thought after reading post 1 your gripe was with the overall cost of the insurance.
I'm with bell (who are part of admiral) and from the little dealings i've had with them, i can't fault them! might be different in the admiral office though.

That does seem a lot, although could be your postcode I suppose
Do you have any points/claims?
Do you have any NCB?
What do you mean 2nd Driver?

Purely due to it being low mileage insurance and Ollys age. Allows them to make sure it's not doing more miles than quoted.

if you go out of hours or over mileage there is a massive fee aswell, not the best in emergencys

Admiral won't put the tracker in on a 10 month bonus accelerator policy, might be worth checking the price on that

This.
I can barely justify paying just under a grand for my VTR - Its bullshit that you have to pay silly premiums for the privelage of driving your car - In australia you get 3rd party insurance as part of your rego (tax + plates). Me at 19 with an open QLD license was $450 a year fully comp an a VX SS commodore - thats a V8 btw.
As if we dont pay enough!
Rant over x

Fair play in doing the hard work to afford stuff like this!
But what's the point if you only have 50 odd hours a week of your life spare?when do you get time to drive your car?

i tried insurance with admiral i put that my mileage was 4000, they didnt ask me about a tracker and also the quotes they give change everyday sometimes a few times in one day :s and my main problem is they want 1400 quid EXTRA just for me to pay monthly :/
