View Full Version : Are you run by money?

Are you a person that chases money all the time? Like do you prefer to go and do overtime and be always tired and feel like shit from work, but have lots of money?
Or are you a person that would rather have less money, but enjoy the better things in life?
Discuss.

Weird, I was going to make a similar thread titled "Would you rather be earning it or spending it"
Personally i like to chase it for a bit until i get a nice lump, Then have a spending spree and start again. I always need to have a good bit of cash on me though.

I'm the first
But I'd rather be the latter
Trying to find a happy medium isn't easy, I always seem to be saving up for something and have to work stupid shifts to earn the cash.

I work because I enjoy my job, majority of cash I use is 'fun money' not cash from working.

Money chasing unfortunately is a big part of my business! I don't work as much as I used to but don't really get a lot of time to do the things I enjoy, I have recently decided to start treating myself more!!

I didn't use to give a shit, i used to blow every penny of my wages every week on drink, drugs, fags and petrol for the car...plus things like taxi's on nights out, hotels etc
Now i grudge wasting it, i don't go out at all hardly, i try and save every penny, although i've just spent over a grand on the car but it is worth it
I still buy stuff, but stuff i really want and they are material posessions so i have something to show for it
Don't get the chance of overtime at work but i would happily work the full 7 days maybe twice a month, just to massively boost the wages
Couldn't give 2 fucks about having a chick just now either as all i want is money :y:

Tbh i get paid every friday and by monday its all gone cept about £50. I don't go out on weekends and get smashed as i work in a nightclub so it doesnt go on alcohol, but i don't do overly stupid shifts if i can help it.

I used to have a good job with chances to earn big bonuses, I always achieved my targets, but I wasn't happy. I liked spending the money but I didn't feel like it was the be all and end all.
So I gave it all up and started nursing. Now I still work crazy hours, get less money, but I'm doing a job I love and I'm actually doing something worthwhile. :y:

i have everything i want . . . and still have money.
its just finding the right balance of the two.
i have a nice new car (07 plate, 2ltr tfsi Leon) not the fastest, not the coolest, but good price, and a decent / quick / reliable car.
i have a fucking awesome bike (yam R6 on a 10 plate) not the fastest, not the coolest, but good, reliable and fast and at a good price
i have savings, enough for holidays, spending on myself, and to buy things i like
i have a fuck load of gadgets, macs, ipads, cameras.
i go on regular holidays - 2-3 a year
and how, on the job that i have not earning mega bucks. by finding the right balance.
unlike most people who have "everything they want" they have also paid out their ass for it, i wanted a new car and got one, might not be a 30k focus RS, i spent less than half that.
i wanted a new bike, might not be a 13k S1000RR i spent half that.
i want to go on holiday, i dont spend 1k all inclusive and go somewhere mad and spend mega bucks, i go centreparks with my close mates, which work out as a week away for £60! and the a relatives house in Spain which cost sub 300 quid for aslong as we like! as we only need to find flights.
im just not fussy :)

I thought i was doing the company a favour working 20 hours overtime last week, but because i had an interview on the monday and had to take a day off i got straight pay for the first 18 hours overtime which meant i lost out on about £180, was fucking fuming.
So i'm now gonna stick to a basic 39hr week instead of doing the extra hours for pure cunts.

I work on average 15+ hours a week for free
I need to get the work / life balance a bit better these days
When I go on holiday , I always take my blackberry & end up doing work
Cost of living is expensive these days

Always trying to get a bit of extra cash to gelp save for uni but it never seems to work.
Generally when I get paid at the end of the month most of it is gone in 3-5 days which isnt good. Also been doing some IT work recently which pays £15 an hour which has helped earn a bit extra and will hopefully be designing a website for another business which should get me about £120 for 4 hours work :)

I used to blow all my wages on everything... Now Im allways working and saving a bit lol
But recently ive started my own business and realised alot of things..
Im 19yo.. and I have my own business, My own Van, My own Car.. And Im pretty happy.. the wage im getting is good.
But now ive had to sell the car and think about the future.. Im looking to get a flat in the next 6 months.. then hopefully my business will be bigger in the next couple of years so i can go onto getting a house.. etc..
So all I have as transport is a van.. but thats something i have to live with.. the missus has a car so well use that..

I will always want money. It won't bother me doing overtime etc (no matter what anyone says about me working...).
I don't go on nights out etc and I save up. I don't spend my money easily either, I take ages to buy something and make sure I want to spend the money and when I do buy it I make certain I get it as cheap as possible!

Don't make anywhere near as much as I would like to, but I'm working on that.
I'd rather not live for money only, enough to live a reasonably comfortable and happy life will do just fine thanks.

I enjoy spending the money i earn, and will do the overtime if it is needed at work but wont always do overtime to earn extra unless i want something then i will ask if there is any overtime going though saying that it is always nice to have more money to waste on things that i dont need.

Money doesn't make me happy, there are so many more important things in life, who you're with and what you're doing and the memories you make, the unforgettable moments you have with friends that you can't buy and wouldn't experience if you were reluctant to do anything because "it costs money/trying to save" (or working) are worth more than any money, if you are so focused on money you can't have a good time, don't get me wrong - you can be financially sensible and be a great laugh, or you can be a tight arse boring scrouge.

at the moment I'm skint as fuck from uni, cos I don't have a job there and I'm having the time of my life. Since I've been home I've been doing everything to earn as much as possible so I can buy anything I like/need and enjoy being back there next year.... So a bit of both.... spending is much more fun though!

As the saying goes.. "Don't become so wrapped up in making a living, that you forget to have a life".. Or something like that.
Recently turned down a job with a 25% salary increase to stay self-employed and happy. I think there's no point making yourself miserable just so you can afford a car with an extra Xbhp or a house with more sqft, because come your dying days you won't give a shit about those things.

I don't agree with that. Just because someone is careful with their money doesn't mean they won't spend it and have a good time. It's just likely they will think hard before they do it and make sure they won't need it for something else
You just need to find the right balance between being a Jew (me) and having a wild time (Peter_D) :D

being in the forces, i get paid the last working day of every month. so im always garuanteed my pay check, but most months ive decided what im going to spend my money on before its actually in my bank. some months i have money left over and other months im skint for the last week. just depends what i do, and also how long the month is etc. but in general, most my money goes on the saxo atm, but its nearly finished then i can start saving for a house!

£700 a month, piss poor retail job,
got £5,300 in savings.
rarely treat myself to big expensive things, suffer from "spenders guilt" (ie, get near something that i would like, and think "i don't need this")
Money goes on, CDs, petrol, football, clothes occasionaly.
need a new job badly really.

In my old job, worked as much as i could. usually hitting 7 days on for my 9 day shift rotation. ( 3 days, 3 nights, 3 off. ) worked every bank holiday, Christmas, new years. loved the money but it was wasted on shit and was pretty shitty person to be around, as i was always tired. After 2 and a half years busting my balls got made redundant with fuck all as a thankyou.
New job. work to cover my bills, dont spend my cash on shite. go out every few months with my mates when i can get them back from whatever part of the country they live at.
wouldnt go back to how i was.

I used to be very money and material based when younger (think most people are).
However now a bit older realised that theres more to life than having the biggest house/fastest car.
I like to work and work hard at what I do but I will try to maintain time away with friends and family. What really put things into perspective was when I went to shoot a guys F40/F1. Basically was told to do it as quick as poss because he works so hard he doesnt get to spend alot of time with family and his toys.
I can do good money on a big weekend with festivals but will never want to do that 52 weeks a year + shoot during the week, it just would be crazy (even if good money)

used to spend every penny i erned!
mainly on my old 106!
now this past few months had to start saveing it and manageing it beter!
baby on the way and gotta rent a house! cant afford to buy and never will problalby
and need to have some saveings becuase for 3-4 months we will be relying prety much on my wage while my mrs is on maternaty leave she will only get £125 a week witch will cover her inurance and running car problalby
with mine i have to pay out
car finance
insurance
double or more my current fuel bill as il be doing a 70 mile round trip to work
rent
things for baby
food
gas electric etc
thats just the basics aswell
needless to say i wish i had managed my money a lot better and not dived in on things im now stuck with....like my car beng a prime excample...can afford it but would be a lot more comfotable without it but stuck with it now
but thats life! il not take it for granted as much again!
and this week im doin an 84hr week! for the ot money to put towards things to buy for the house!
no wounder why so many people dont work now! we would be better off if my mrs didnt work/gave up! benifits we would get would total more than what would be left from her wage when you take into concideration the cost of childcare we will hve to pay! i could also claim tax credits etc aswell to make up for it!
shame she loves her job and wont give it up! becuase essenchaly she will be working to run her car and pay for child care costs #
where as my wage will cover the house and day to day items/bills etc
skint times ahead tbh.if i was a cunt id walk away like a few people i know have! and pay the CSA an amount each week and id be a lot better off for it in my pocket! but im not like that!

I don't care too much about money, as long as I can pay my bills and afford to eat etc then cool....would be nice to be able to afford things like holidays, a new car, etc but money doesn't make you happy, not in my opinion, other things missing from my life that if fulfilled would make me far happier than winning the lottery :)
