I've cut some of this from other forums so some of it wont make much sense but you will get the idea.

i got my 1st saxo vts in 2005 ripped everything out of it and used it as a track/fast road tin can, in july 2005 somebody killed it, so found this one in swindon for a bargain and really liked it...

then....

swapped for a 200sx, running 275bhp uber quick uber thirsty.

but this is about the saxo...

swapped back a few months later tho the saxo in a sorry state.. it had been stripped of all goodies and sat since i left it.

It has been raped of all its goodies and was near enough standard!! standard manifold, half an ashley gone, a cat!, no quickshift, no induction kit, , standard seats, and 106gti wheels!

Luckily i had kept the Compomotives!

i lost interest a lot and the car got very much abused and mistreated. for a while a mix of wheels and very old dodgy suspension and headgasket issues! I gave it a burst of life with a good clean up before kames 06 and risked going up there with serious headgasket issues and standard shocks that had been lowered 80mm 6years before and been hammered to death. with the headgasket the way it was i wasnt expecting to be driving home.

the day i got back i snuck up to castle coombe for a half hour session with no anti roll bar and headgasket still dying! in V.W conditions.

then i had some minor exhaust issues at trax 2007 (it fell off) which i got sorted...

it was on dodgy tyres and wheels and not getting a lot of love again, had hardly any interest in it and was tempted to get rid... it sat outside the house for a while with no front number plate or tax due to laziness and i used the van to get around instead of the car.

did a fair track days in it, with it being fairly poorly but still running well and bar its lack of grip performing very well.

decided to sort a few bits, got some new polybushed wishbones, fixed the ARB for good, attempted some painting inside and got some really tatty seats which lasted less than a week on some very unsafe custom subframes.

then i decided to hunt for some goodies and got hold of some reclining but still pretty cool sparco seats...

also got some 306gti6 brakes for the front, got my wheels powdercoated in white, new eagle f1s to stop me being lazy with changing half sets of wheels etc, ditched the slaggy steels as they wouldnt fit over the new brakes.

I got my hands on an AX rollcage, with some minor fabrication i got so very crude mounts and bolted it in.

The rear side windows were custom, they fit on the recess that would normally hold the rubber in.. im impressed with them so far...

Next thing was the cage, it hadnt been finished so i decided enough was enough and dug out the welder i bought and attempted to use it!!..with some grinding, home made tube notcher and some patience me and my mate rich (also never welded) produced the following...

the welder i got wasnt really man enough and kept playing up so i borrowed a MASSIVE welder, and some knowledge of a another mate. (he did some welding but not all of it!) we put in the harness bar....

Next!! the Headlining came out.
Rear Beam was been changed over - this was a bitch, the brake lines were rusted onto the old one so we had to make a new line!

we then took the cages B-pillar mounts have been taken out completely, i wasnt happy with them, so we began fabricating new ones this time i left the welding to my mecahnic mate who had returned from Australia for a bit...

new wiper motor (mine is screwed, there is loads of play in the arm)

the doors were seized and the heads ripped out of the torx screws so we decided to cut them off. i am amazed how heavy they are!! i would say 30kg would be a fair guess.

also did some more loom raping and decided to run all my cables under car so sorted that too!!

the rear seat belt brackets,
the front seat mounting plate ( the bit that sits over the exhaust tunnel with the bolts in for the original seats)

and stripped some sealer from the seams inside

mike carried on after i left as i had to run to southampton in an emergency
and has let me know there are some holes in the boot floor where it joins the arch, im hardly suprised, they all go there.

slow progress at the moment, we have had to cut the old mounts out from the previous cage, the welds on the last one were very thick (up to 15mm in places as we didnt make the mounts a spot on fit)

this has fucked the metal underneath and made them a right bitch to remove so we have cut out the shit and are going to plate some new "floor" in.

after we got the mounts out we had a bit tidy up and i loaded all the panels into the truck to take away. we were running out of space.

The cage was delivered to the wrong address, the couriers have assured me it will be here 2mro and after speaking with Rob from CCF he has let me know the doors will be done fingers crossed for Friday. fitting the doors is not going to be anytime soon so im not overly fussed about going up to pick them up yet. but might venture up over the weekend.

2mro's plan is to get the old mounts cleaned up and grind back the remaining shit ready for plate. but we shall see.

Nick is what you have done to the tunnel just done by cutting the seat mounts off the tunnel?

yeah drilled the spots out and removed it, weighed about 5kg and i dont need it with my seats going in on rails.

matrix is out, fuel lines are out of the cab now, and i've made some templates to make some plates to block off the hole from the heater pipes, the cover for my wires hole and the cover for the wires into the wing hole.

its fitted now and the ariel hole has been welded up.

its removable if you drill the rivets out, but youll have to remove look at attaching the handbrake back on as the oval shape bit it slots though is part of the bit you remove...

obviously the new roof is on too.

right im off on holiday 2mro night and have been told it will be sprayed inside by the time i get back, popped up today to look at it and pick the seats etc up as they arent needed anymore.

we have decided to seal all the seams to tidy it up but mainly to stop any potential leaks as all the original sealer will have burned out when stitching.

mike put it on and its not even close!!

going to have to cut some of the bulkhead out, move the motor down and then box in around it.

re-fitting the 2nd skin back over the unnel where the handbrake fits.. the single floorpan section didn`t seem strong enough to support a hefty yank on the handbrake..

im going to trial mine, worst case i'll re-enforce it from underneath so i dont disturb the paint.

free's up a fair bit of space tho!!

a few updates and im after some opinions...

starting fault:
starter is sounding slow and not spinning like it should, battery is not the problem, we have tried a few and know they are good. starter was new last year and has had a couple of months light use if even! im going to check the earth leads incase something is up... but open to ideas?!

steering fault:
we lowered the steering colomn about an inch, now the steering feels loose then tight and is very irratic pulling me all over the place when driving, im guessing this is because we lowered it and its causing the UJ joint issues, will try in original position 2mro and find out....

glowing manifold:
took it for a test drive the other night and when i got back after a hard 10mins the manifold was glowing bright orange.

took it for another drive tonight and took it very easy as the steering is sketchy, but noticed the manifold was glowing again when we got back, surely that isnt right!?!?!

other than the above the finishing list is:

fit torsion bars
fit rear arb
sort earth fault on the rear lights
wire up the dials so they come on when the lights do!
fit side repeaters
fit front numberplate
attach the bottoms of the sideskirts to the underside of the car somehow!

..get an mot!!

not much to do now.

lastly, got a new battery today and made a mini bracket to hold it in place under the bonnet, its not heavy and the car runs fine with it, (when i can get it to start!!) forgot to get a pic of it in situ but will 2mro...

the head has been skimmed.

bought some new wishbone bushes from rallye design, i already had some uprated ones but they are knackered. so i got the polyrace ones.

and some for the beam also!

and a Quaife ATB Diff!

Gearbox is off the block so will be fitting a vts box i managed to get my hands on for now while i rip apart the S1 rallye box and get it diff-d up!

bay should be getting some prep this weekend, and i think we are taking the wings off to have a serious play with the wiring, a lot of it is going in the cab!!

I dont get how its sat further back, if you measure from the centres of the wheels front to back its the same on both sides. we'll see, i didnt think to check after the tracking had been done but i assume its still the same.

poly race bushes arrived today for the beam and the front wishbone mounts. as did a sheet of real carbon fibre in flexy form to stick on the door bars to protect them from chipping climbing in.

i've got some jp4 white covers on there way Alex.

Evo had a piston with about 5mm of play in it. back on the road now with another engine in. selling the old/broken engine for £750 lol crazy money in evo's!

ccf panels fit well, for what they are, function over form i tell myself but they are good. untrained eye wouldnt know they were any different, they dont fit with door seals and the passenger one sits away from the shell at the top a bit so passenger seat gets wet!! nothing that cant be sorted in time tho.

It hasnt cost as much as most would think! including buying it owes me about 7k and thats been over 6.5years.

I found some 2mm thick black plastic sheet so cut some sections out to cover the bung holes in the floor and siliconed them in. Fingers crossed they will stay in place.

Need to pop the dash out to do the ones behind there, quite a few bungs missing so a strong smell of fuel comes through when driving,

I'm also planning to fit a heater matrix back in but I don't think its going to fit after the scuttle was modified for the AX wiper motor!!

Not easy to fit Mark! You will need to fabricate plates and dowels to attach to the doors, the standard hinges are welded to the doors whichyou cant do to fibreglass!!

Otherwise its just time consuming with a dremel cutting out the handle holes, VT kit holes, etc etc

I MIGHT be selling mine soon, already done, still havent decided.

Slight update,

I'm reshelling into a 106 Gti!! Planning to make the 106 a slightly more road friendly spec. The sort of car you can take for a drive at the weekend, or drive to the ring, as well as around it!!!

Lots of bits will be up for grabs including the Saxo shell!!
