How can a uni be fun? Is it fun to further your education? Or are you talking about the "fun" side being the nightlife?

Just another quick question! How many ucas points did everyone have under their belts when they went?

All I can say is don't go to uni if you're not going to learn but are just wanting to enjoy the social side. Would be a complete waste of time.

Of course im still going to learn! But also have a good time and get experience!
I doubt it anyone goes to uni just for the degree

Well... a lot of people go to learn but end up wasting it all and coming out with nothing which I can't see why. Why would anybody waste their time at uni but come out with nothing apart from having as some people say "the time of their life."

I left school at 16/17 with some good GCSE's.
I then when onto college to take an Adv. GNVQ in Construction & The Built Environment for two years.
I then went onto take an HNC in Construction (at the same college) for another two years.
I then topped up the HNC to an HND in Construction (again at the same college) for another year.
After completing the HND, I went onto London South Bank Uni to take a BSc in Architectural Technology. Because I had already completed an HND in Construction, I was put into the third year of the five year degree course. My final year will start September this year. I will then stop studying as eight years AFTER school is long enough.
Throughout those eight years, I've worked at a local council as a Building Control Officer, a Civil and Strucutral CAD tehnician and two Architecture roles. Damn it's been a long time.
What I can't work out is that Architects and Doctors have to study for the same amount of time (approx. 7 years) but a doctor is paid two or three times as much as an Architect. Hmmm.
But what I'm trying to get at is that I could have so easily dropped out anywhere along the line but didn't. I would have wasted all of that if one day I just thought... enough was enough. If you're going to do it, then stick to it and see it through to the end. I'm not saying do NOT have a social life but don't go too over the top. It's not big or clever ending up in huge debt with no qualifications.

Nice advice!
But i dont plan to drop out along the way :P
And i fully plan to get my degree but also have a good time along the way !

Yeah you find the uni's that are lacking in a big social atmosphere tend to lose a few new students right at the beginning. All that work needs to be offset against some good relaxin and gettin' phat wasted time - otherwise you'll go mad.
The first two weeks are so important at uni they either make you or break you.

Best peice of advice yet!
Im thinking Leeds at the moment! Its a long way from home but looks the right course for me, plus the nightlife looks amazing :fcuk:

Well I'm 300miles from mine.
Adamsax is a similar distance from his.
it doesnt really matter to be honest you dont need (or shouldnt want) to go back home every weekend.
I see it as being far enough away to have indepenence without being too far away if somethings goes horribly wrong. Also I quite fancied experiencing a different part of the country.
Living at home whilst at uni - in my opinion is a no no. as part of the whole uni experience is living, not relying on mother cooking food, washing sidemarks out of pants, meeting up with your mates from school everynight etc.
What I can't work out is that Architects and Doctors have to study for the same amount of time (approx. 7 years) but a doctor is paid two or three times as much as an Architect. Hmmm.
Im guessing because doctors are much more needed and can save lifes etc

Are you 18 dude?
what my sister did was book a hotel in the city centres of the places she want to go to, basically it gave her chance to sus out the uni in terms of location and the attitude of the students, then she went out to student bars and stuff in the evening - again checking out the attitude and things. She took a friend too.

I'm at Northampton, and i'm not living in halls, for two main reasons:
#1 I don't need to - live close enough to drive
#2 I need my home comforts!
I do like the uni, and I'm taking my degree in Primary Teaching very seriously - the nightlife in Northampton is fairly good but not as good as somewhere like Manchester, which I know is fantastic.
To answer your second question, I got into uni with about 450 ucas points.

Yeh... I know that mate. But should a doctor train for a longer period of time if they're to saves lives or should architects train for a shorter period if they're there to design? You see what I'm getting at? 7 years training for both professions but one is a lot better paid than the other.

450 .. brain box! Im only thinking of staying at college for two years so i will come out with 260 at most.. but if i stay another year 400-540 is easly attainable but i dont think i want to hang around another year!

Medicine is bloody intensive in terms of work load...
Got two on my street from back home that are doing it - and they are both struggling despite getting straight A's at A levels.
I do engineering... high work load too.. yet all i come out with at the end of the 4.5 years is a Masters
Whereas someone doing sociology (no offence to any sociology people - just the engineeringy types are jealous of your 3 hour weeks ;)) will do the same duration and get a Masters too.

The term... life's not fair comes into mind. Oh well... but at least you get paid for doing something you love... well or at least I hope some of the people do. Haha! I know I do.

Still together after 4 years man :Y:
Its a pain the distance as it means we cant see each other for months at a time but if your willing to make it work, you will :)
I see what you saying but I guess it just takes that amount of time for a reason, I hear alot of doctors end up becoming a nurse or something else because they dont have the money.
