Unfortunately i had to sell it for a ridiculous some of money to get this:

as i have a 40 mile round trip to work and a baby on the way so wasn't really practical with buckets etc



So its a 1997 Peugeot 106 XR 1.4



Came with 51,000 miles and FSH and bought for £700

Currently insuring it for £650 fully comp with personal accident and breakdown cover

Tax is £130 a year



So initial thoughts:

It has TINY wheels (skinny 13" tyres LOL) so its epic in the wet hahaha lift off oversteer FTW!

Its not that slow really feels a tiddly bit slower than my old VTR but feels a lot gruntier low down than the VTS did.

Grandad interior needs sorting with rallye or gti items.

Currently getting around 55-60mpg which is brilliant!

Anyways so far i have added S2 Rallye decals and sprayed the wheel trim covers bianca white purely to give it a bit more colour and less old manish.

Future plans are to pull the black wrap krap off the pillars and doors and replace it with carbon fibre wrap.



Really trying to shake the itch to 16v it and whack on some decent suspension making it a real 5 door wolf in sheep's clothing hopefully i should do as its just a cheap DD.



Any comments/suggestions welcome!

Its so great giving it the beans in this car! Everyone just leaves you alone whereas in the old car they saw it as a cue to race.
Good fun driving it fast too can tripod it at the fortune of war roundabout and it doesn't handle bad either. Well....i can drive it as quick as my old car but with added sliddeyness and chassis bending awesomeness lol

Most of the time im just driving it like a Grandad to get good MPG :D

Will give it its first proper whoring at weekend and will get some pics.

Tell you what the hubcaps look proper awesome for a rattle can job and being as they are so big its actually hard to tell they aren't alloys! Maybe if some VTR/rallye steels/cyclones come up cheap i will get as the car is a 4 stud WOOP

Okay so the understated looks almost killed me today!

Went to overtake a 40mph focus in a 60 zone...

Twat decides to block me twice and then slam on the brakes causing me to lock mine up!
I then proceeded to live inches from his bumper while keeping my left foot on the brake hopefully scared him enough to not try such a dangerous and illegal move.

So far all thats been done is

Rallye decals front rear and side minus the 'rallye' one on the rear quarter.
White plastic wheel trims.
Yellow dust caps.
Cleaned and waxed.
MOT pass all i need sorting is a blow on the exhaust, slight oil leak and bit of free play in steering.

Right so the missus has said i can get my beloved clio 200 that i want once the baby is born and she is back to work and we are stable financially which is good but this will mean at least a year with a slow slow car.

So...

I've decided to do a few little bits to this car to make it more bearable in that time. I may even use it at the Nurburgring next year instead of hiring a swift.

Plans.

First thing i need to do is to fit some bigger wheels im thinking not too big as long as i can fit 266mm brakes underneath them so will probably get some 14" Raptors as the standard wheels/tyres on at the moment are ridiculously dangerous in the wet. Colour? Black? White? Red?

Top and bottom strut braces as they are cheap and quite a cost effective mod.

266mm brakes on the front need to find where i can get the whole setup on the cheap.

Small little things to reduce weight like removing the spare wheel and ditching the rear wiper can't really do too much more as it needs to be comfortableish for the baby and the missus.

Considering on fitting some better seats like GTI or rallye ones or perhaps even go with a bucket for me with harness as that will mean baby can still go in the back and the missus hated the buckets in the saxo anyway.

Bodywise i really hate the fact that its so gaaay looking with no arches or menacing front bumper but for the ass ache it would be fitting a GTI kit i don't think its worth it and i also think it will just add weight and looking at the car at the moment im sure its more aerodynamic than a GTI.

Wheels/tyres are the main one's at the moment. I think 14's will be more than big enough for such a piddly car and pathetic 75bhp engine. Not sure on what profile and tyres to be getting though

you intend to buy a 200 which go for around 8 - 14k
You had to get the 106 because you need good MPG for the miles you travel to work, 200's don't have good MPG.

Either you've not grasped the concept of being a family man - ie; not wasting money on a car.
Or, you don't have a clue how money works. having to buy a cheap 106 because you have no money, and then buying a 200 because you have no money.

getting a baby seat in a 3 door is so much hassle, i used to struggle getting it in a 3 series with a lot more space than a clio
plus lifting it out will be a nightmare for her if youre not there :) babies are heavier than they look

As for the comment's above about 200's over the older Clio's... I went to a CS.net meet at the weekend and was talking to a lad who got rid of his 172 for a 200 a few month back. He said the 172 was more fun to drive but the 200 was a much better car and feels a lot more planted.

As everyone with experience will tell you the MPG is also shit on a 200 for what it is, really.
Still doesn't stop me wanting one, mind.

She never said you cant. It was my 3 series and the baby seat literally had to push the seat further than it would go and stress the seat to get the baby seat in. It was near inpossible for the baby seat to physically get into the back of the car. Also when it was in the back it wa a tight fit with the drivers seat back in its position.

I feel sorry for your baby, I hope the mother has some brain cells to pass onto it.

i think im the only mum on here? so i was just giving you a mums view that its really hard in a 3 door. i can lift him but lifting a car seat with child inside through a small gap at arms length is hard. taking this advice might save you buying it, just to realise its impractical and having to get rid.
dannys car was such a hassle (not moaning danny, im really thankful for you helping me out :p ) and in the pissing rain and if you cant find a parent and child space, i cant imagine its much fun :p

also, we budgeted for baby, and it ends up being a lot lot more as you just cant help but buy them toys, clothes, helpful gadgets etc and you'll find those loads of things you realise you need once babies here!

Hard_corejoeboy, I've recently bought a rear wheel drive sports car from the late 80's. Although it's more powerful than my previous car and handles better, I can't seem to achieve the same level of body roll and panic corrections when tackling those tricky suburban roundabouts at speed.

I'm trying to find B8's for my car but they don't seem to make them. Could you pass on some wisdom perhaps? I've always been taught to drive smoothly but I now realise where I've gone wrong.

They aren't that different but the Trophy comes with alot better gear IMO. Sachs fully adjustable suspension (providing you un-pin it) recaro seats as standard, slighty wider track ( I think?) which would cost a lot to have put on your cup...

Its just the sachs remote res. dampers that are different mechanically. All 182s had a wider track over the 172s. Dont get me wrong the dampers are great but you can find a normal 182 with better after market gear for less than a trophy would cost. Just paying for the "steez" imo.

Spot on. Most of the trophy stuff was an option on the 182s - turinis, recaros etc you just couldnt get the dampers.

People seem to think the dampers need rebuilds every few 1000 miles which they dont. Only need cleaning due to lack of dust covers on the dampers!
As good as it is however I think they are better track weapons to choose for £5k-6k as is currently the going trophy price

Hard_corejoeboy, I've recently bought a rear wheel drive sports car from the late 80's. Although it's more powerful than my previous car and handles better, I can't seem to achieve the same level of body roll and panic corrections when tackling those tricky suburban roundabouts at speed.

I'm trying to find B8's for my car but they don't seem to make them. Could you pass on some wisdom perhaps? I've always been taught to drive smoothly but I now realise where I've gone wrong.
