right, I can't use MSN download at work, but I can send instant messages via hotmail.

What does it mean when the 'MSN icon' is red ?? I click on it and it defaults to an email, not the messanger box ?? and yes, user(s) are online ??

If it's red then it usually means your status is set to "Appear Offline".

If you (double)click on the icon and it automatically opens up a browser to send an email, then you're not signed in.

Why not use Windows Messenger (i.e. Web Messenger)?

Work will not allow me to use Windows Messenger, hence why I have to send them via hotmail.

It tell me I'm logged in as I can see other ppl, with green MSN ?? but this one I can't....each time I click.....new message, not messanger

Window (Web) messenger is normally permitted on every computer/networked computer though. It's not as advanced as MSN/Windows Live Messenger but it still does the same job.

But... I'm a little lost as to what you've just tried to explain.

DD. The only way I can MSN is via hotmail

1) Load hotmail contact
2) When viewing contacts MSN ppl display the MSN icon next to them
3) Click on the icon next to name, instantly opens a direct one to one MSN chat.

For some reason, the MSN icon is red ? and it defualt to an email whn clicked >

Maybe it means that person is offline so you can only send them an email and not an instant message?
