View Full Version : What Muscles to Train Together?

just getting back into gym, been doing alot more cardio, starting doing weights again, at moment been doing just half an hour each day (not every day) doing weights
I could search on google, but as there seems to be some great knowledge in here, id like to know what muscles ok to train with another? Some times i dont get the chance to go for a few days, so id like to try double up some sessions.
At the moment though, im not really sure what my goal is, my sound strange, but i dont crave to be massive, but i dont want to be small, i want to also get some fitness out of it, im not too arsed about putting weight on, or loosing weight. may seem strange, and no doubt it will change once i get into it more, but i generally dont want one thing out of it.
Im sorting out my diet alot, no snacking, plenty of veg, chicken, turkey and so on.
Any help/input would be great

legs
chest & triceps
abs
back biceps
shoulders & traps
Chest & Bicep
Back
shoulders and Triceps
i knwo some find it easier to do Back, Legs and Abs, as singles. like i do.
and ill do Biceps with my Chest.
but others may find they want to do their Back with their Bicep...
but i guess its how you feel comftable doing them, but thats the muscles i personally feel should be joined with each other.

like said just do one muscle a day, not really in an order, im aware i probably should do some muscles after doing certain ones the day before, but havent looked proper into it mate

i have quite often done chest and triceps together when i know im not going to get to the gym for a few days. also done back and biceps.
i do abs at the end of every work out, but also once a week try to do a full session on them too

Best way to think about it is that for all of the exercise you do that involves a pulling motion, you are using your back and your biceps, pushing movements involve your chest and triceps and also your shoulders more so than on a pull exercise. If I were you, I'd give each muscle, including your abs, maybe a 3 day rest. My personal preference would be to do your chest, then finish off your triceps by working them after your chest. Likewise for your biceps, do your back, then finish your biceps off. Work your legs separately to your upper body, or I would. Maybe work your shoulders and abs on a different day, I find shoulders a tricky one, always find they are getting used and always aching... Anyway, probably best waiting for advice off someone who does proper splits, I tend to just do push/pull days.

It might happen, might not. Mine started getting bad when I was doing hanging exercises for my abs, didn't realise the stress it was putting on my shoulders I don't think... Make sure you do rotator cuff exercises to strengthen them.

yeah i do, normally use the pulley and have arm at 90 degrees and pull away
if that makes sense?!

Not really, do you use the top or bottom pulley? I just hold a dumbbell, keep my upper arm parallel to the ground with my elbow at a 90 degree bend and my forearm parallel to the ground, then rotate upwards so it's vertical. I guess that's similar to what you do though and I've just not understood! Can't imagine the cables giving you suitable weight increments to increase strength gradually though?

1st day - Chest and tri's
2nd day - Shoulders and abs
3rd day - Back and bi's
Then i just repeat the cycle.
As for cardio, play footy for a team so training weekly n matches on weekend.
Simple Routine and it works well. Most popular routine aswell.

Never really understood why people train 50% of their body once a week.
Always good to look at splitting legs up - calves can be stubborn so do them more often if yours are.
I do:
Chest + tri's
Quads + calves
Back + biceps
Shoulders
Hams + calves
abs done at end of workout.
If i miss any arm exercises i pick them up with shoulders.
And of course you want to get big - you'll want to get as big as you can, you just don't know it yet!!

I stick to push and pull. But train them all by themselves at the moment. Bar I have an 'arms' day. This is only due to both knees being fucked so I cant train legs :n:

I start with chest and tri's - do legs the next day followed by back and bi's - finishing with shoulders
Used to do back the day after chest but most of the time my chest was still sore so prefer to give it an extra day by lobbing legs in there..
