I'm trying to sort this problem on my step daughters '98 saxo 1.1.

I'm not very familiar with citroens but it appears to be the idle control valve/motor. One of the RAC men that ecued her suggested this and another suggested a fueling problem.

I've thouroghly cleaned the "throttle body" with carb cleaner which has made no difference and appears to be OK. I did notice that when the throttle was resting on the ICV you could hear the motor whiring. If you moved it away it stopped which leads me to believe that this is the culprit.

Any susggestions gratefully recieved to point us in the right direction without replacing every sensor !

In my experience with icv problems they don't usually cause the car to cut out in higher revs as the throttle body will be open drawing the air needed anyway so I can't see it cutting out from that, like your other suggestion id go towards a fueling problem like maybe a clogged up fuel filter? I know it could be other things but thats a cheap place to start

This car dosn't appear to have a MAP sensor. It is "single point" injection and looks to have a vacumn pipe connected directly to the throttle body.

It would appear that it also runs OK not cutting outwhen cold for the first mile. Is the temosesor likely to give this problem ?
