DONT GET THAT AMP. The sub is great but the 121spl is coming up to 2 years old that is old gear that they are shaging out. The new sub is the 3004 spl it can handle evn more power, it is also the same one i have and it is bullit proof but you would really let it down if you run it on a pile of crap like that amp. I have fitted them and all they do is go bang and smoke more than i do.

go for an amp around 1000 watt RMS not max power. you can damage a sub if you under power it. as it will get to hot and cook it. subs are designed to be run at a the power they rate them. a sub is cooled be itself that is why they have a vented pole piece and the spider is made out of a material that lets air through. if you under power a sub it will still go like the clapers but there is not enough movement to produce air air to cool it.

because if you have any problems with a kicker, jl, rockford, diamond ect you have to take it out send it back and if you blow it up you are fcuked. But with the pioneer the price for that sub is great and if you get any problem they just swop them over no questions asked. Yes there are much better subs avalible but they are much more money. so as jonsey has asked about the pioneer sub i am guessing that is oround the kind of money he wonts to spend. Dave what would you recomend???

he could try the RE range of subs but as you have stated, it depends on his budget
